I didn't know minors below 15 were allowed to work. Minors who are 15 I believe aren't allowed to work more than 6 hours a day on a school day after 3:30 pm.

But does anyone know the federal law regarding minors in a family run business?

I'm asking because there is a local chinese restaurant here whos owners always have their children working. I called in my order and after 20 minutes I went to go get it, and the girl didn't even submit my order to be made, another 10 minutes went by before I got my food. It's really annoying that they have their kids running around the place anyway.

Most employment laws surrounding minors are usually governed by each state. I believe that family run businesses fall under the same rule, but then again, the business would have to report the minors as working in order for the state to even know about them working. I'm sure you could report them if you feel strongly about it. I'd be interested to see what the gov't would do about it.

I would love to report them because, even though I only eat there once ever 2-3-4 months, I get tired of their kids staring at me and running the cash register.

I could have sworn though hearing that if it's a family owned business either the kids don't need a work permit, or they can 'work' there how ever many hours the parents need/want them too because their is no real set law about it.

I might have to give my dad a call.

As far as I can tell after quickly reading Florida's laws, children who work for their parents have no restrictions on the number of hours they work, but they can't work certain jobs. Here's Florida's site about child labor.

Let me get this right. You're mad because you're not getting the service you expect. But instead of complaining to a manager, you're trying to figure out a way to sic the police on the owners of the restaurant? That seems excessive. :confused

The managers are the parents of the children. Neither of which speak English worth a shit. I'm not running through that gauntlet. I never said I was going to run them into the police, but I wanted to know if it was even legal in the first place.

However, these people are too cheap to get a baby sitter for their 3 year old. So their three year old is running around the restaurant harassing patrons with small amounts of full supervision.

Last time I went in for the buffett the 12 year old sat at the table across from us and watch us eat.

Do you enjoy being stared at while you're eating?
