And seeing most of you arn't British and probably didn't see it

YouTube - The Christmas Broadcast, 2007

What did you think? I thought it was a good one for once, good to see she's moving with the times and now has her own youtube channel too.:D Whatever the arguments for and against an unelected head of state, I think she's a pretty decent one and better than a lot of elected heads of state elsewhere anyway!

I don't ever watch the speech, but I agree with you on the rest of what you say about her.

I think she is quite sweet, but i do feel at times things are covered up a bit, but could be wrong - that's usually things we never get to know about anyway.

Otherwise, no, she is about the best.

I did like Fergie though and Diana - what a shame with what went on there, was sad in both cases I thought. :(

What kind of ignorant bullshit comment was that?
Besides tourism, they are useless figureheads and don't really do anything. Plus they represent feudalism/authoritarianism if you want to get down to their meaning.....not a very democratic era in human history.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Queen is a very nice lady, lovely indeed, but I just think they shouldn't be supported.

If the queen wasn't our head of state, we'd just have some other douche doing the job who would expect more power. I'm proud of the fact that this country has managed to make the monarchy powerless without the need for a bloody revolution which happened in most other countries who abolished their monarchy. Anyway, this wasn't the point of this thread, it was to see what you thought of her speech this year. I personally felt that for the first time in a long while it was actually sincere and was well meaning and with a lot of compassion and good sense.

I support my Queen completely.

They are not useless. The Royal Family has complete control of all nations within the British Empire. They have no need to exercise these powers though, as the democratic governments they have established in these nations have succeeded quite well. Monarchism is a form of Authoritarianism, yet all 16 nations of which the Queen rules are democracies. And 16 other nations have become republics during her reign. That's half of the British Empire, and did she fight to keep them within? No. Sounds extremely democratic to me.

Elizabeth II is a role model for all women young and old, and even for men. Her courage and love for her people is second to none, and the way she has conducted herself during her reign is a model for which other world leaders should base their character on.

......and not forgetting she's a woman in her 80s doing a job she got whether she liked it or not! Most women that age are enjoying their retirement!

I can't wait for the day I get to actually choose wether I want a king or not. I think I can say the Spanish King is an example of all the good quallities a head of the state can have (almost always... remembers the Chavez incident), but still. I have NOT chosen him and he is living the good life because he was born in his family, purely and simple. I am way too democratic to think that way. I'd rather have an asshole my people have chose than a good man who I have no choice over.
