My dad picked me up from my aerobics class one night and somehow sparked the conversation that if he had time like me hed be pumping weights and building muscle. thats all well and good but i don't want a sculpted body. I think its humorous some body builders have boobs bigger than some females. so just because I have the time I should do it? *rolls eyes*

Because like the fact that I took the step to do aquatic aerobics & am still losing weight, isn't good enough?

its not about you wanting a sculpted body dana, but as you lose more weight you might want to tone up a little.

There's a lot of misinformation out there when it comes to weight lifting.

Lifting weights vs doing aerobics isn't really going to effect the amount of excess skin you have after losing a lot of weight. What will effect it is how fast you lose it and how much collagen and elastin you still produce. Youth helps.

Adding some strength training into your routine can't do any harm. You'd be surprised at how strength training not only works your muscles, but also your heart.

A good balance between cardiovascular and strength excersise is a good route to go.

Lifting weights can be of great benefit doll, it can tone your muscles, increase your metabolism....it can also strengthen your bones, helps guard agains osteoporosis. Weight training can make you strong, and in doing so can make other physical activity a whole lot easier. I try to get to the gym at least twice a week, I'm no body builder....lmbo...but I do the best that I can. Most women think that if they lift weights they'll develop huge muscles, not true at all, what it will do is tone the muscles you already have. Kudo's to you for what you're already doing...but don't be so quick to deprive yourself of the beneifts that go hand in hand with weight lifting. Good luck.

I don't do any weight lifting right now just b/c I don't see the point in putting on muscle on top of fat. Once I get closer to my goal weight I'm going to hire a personal trainer and go from there. I'm expecting saggy skin, but I'd much rather have saggy skin than the extra fat I've had for most of my life!!! ;)

You don't have to do a lot of weights, but a little strength training at least three times a week will help you burn fat off faster, because the more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn off. And like sadie said, it has a lot of benefits, many studies have investigated the benefits of strength training. But like has been mentioned, as you lose more weight it's probably best to do it. You might find that doing only cardio will become complacent and your weight might plateau, so then would be a good time to mix it up a bit with some strength training :)

tis very true. If you are trying to lose weight (actually size) then some weight training is a huge benefit. Muscles will burn fat 24/7. So the more you tone/build your muscles, the faster you will lose the fat.
