So where is the conflict here?

He applied for a grant in May of '09 entitled "Technical Assistance in Evaluating Options for National Healthcare Reform"
He was awarded the grant one month later. Once he had the grant, it wouldn't matter what his findings were. They are not going to take his grant away because his findings were not favorable.

And it isn't the Obama administration that doles out the grant money... but I guess it's fun to think the check was handed over with a wink and a nod from the commander in chief to get the results he wanted.

Imagine that, a politician taking money. ..

He's not a politician and he isn't taking money, he's earning it.

Jesus Christ, do you people even read the articles? Do you even care about back story or the truth? Or do you just glance at an article, shake your head, throw out a mindless comment and move on???

It doesn't matter, its still a conflict of interest. They might not take his grant money away, but what exactly do you think the chances of him getting more are should he produce findings that they don't like? I'd say slim and none....

Notwithstanding that, it still should have been disclosed that his paycheck was cut by admin.

I know you're in full on "the ends justify the means" apologist mode to get what you want, but this is damn ridiculous.

Dig into it a little further and you will see that it was disclosed numerous times. What more do you want? Would you like it to be tattooed to his forehead? This is the problem with today's media, nothing is sourced and the "reporters" don't dig any deeper than the last article they read online.

So are you saying that if the government contracted me to give them technical assistance in evaluating opinions for health care reform that my opinions are no longer valid since I took the money for doing my job that I was contracted for?

I've read several articles citing him and none of them made that disclosure. If he disclosed it then good on him, then my criticism extends

Technical consultation is different from policy consultation and you know it. Its fairly easy to draw up objective requirements and performance criteria in order to justify one technical solution over another. Not so when you're dealing with social/economic policy issues....

On top of that yf it was the GWB admin paying you and you ended up recommending the Halliburton Health Care Computer and Weather Control Machine I'd be just a little suspect... :24:
