hopefully you will get past the first 30 seconds. then things usually smooth out
I hate this stuff too. The dread leading up to it is awful.

Personally, I love public speaking. With that said, there is something I always tell people who say "I'm scared, all those people are judging me, and talking about me, etc."
I always ask "when you're listening to a presentation are you judging that person or are you empathetic because public speaking is no fun for some people."
and they usually say "I'm not judging them or trash talking them."
and I say, they aren't judging you or trash talking you either, so just go up there, and know that most people you are facing have the same fear, and probably have been in your exact shoes."

I always do OK at these, but no matter how many I do, I still get that anxiety. It used to be horrible, I couldn't sleep the night before, upset stomach, the whole thing.
These days I sleep like a baby the night before and really don't get bothered until just before I am.introduced. but yea, after the first 10 - 20 seconds of the preamble, it goes away.
Still hate doing them, and unfortunately I do quite few.
I remember one of my early ones in China. Holy shit, I almost puked.

I speak to groups in my job. Usually only 12 at a time, but occaisionally large numbers. It does make a difference. The most intimidated I ever felt was giving an off-the-cuff presentation in front of 50 experienced speakers and then getting critiqued by them afterward. That was a great training session.
Another good thing to do is get filmed during your presentation. I did a 10 minute and 15 minute filmed presentation with a class critique and an instructor critique. It makes you aware of every little "tick" you have. It will absolutely improve your presentation skills.
I still get the butterfly's on the frst day with a new class or in anticipation of addressing a group. That's perfectly normal - kinda feels like just before kick-off when the ref blows the whistle. The butterfly's go away with that first physical contact.

I'd actually rather speak to 200 people than 20 people. I'd consider 200 people less a room of judging people, and more a large quivering, wobbling, blob of conjoined odourous flesh.
