Portable software

Has anyone used portable software that users post on torrent sites? How do you rate it? I've used Photoshop but always had a save error. The program never saved anything to the hard drive. The reason I ask is because it would be so much less of a resource hog on the lap top if i put some portable apps on it instead of the resource drains.

I use Word 7 and Excel 7 Portable. I tried getting the whole office pack (arrr mate) but never worked. *shurg* I like that I can take it with my on my USB.

A great program I found is Calibre Portable. Since I am an eBook junkie it's used at least once every week. My Kobo can read txt, pdf, but the best experience is with epub. Calibre can convert almost any type of textual file into an epub (or any other ebook format) I love it.

ive used photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, and even portable flash with no issues upon saving!
just FYI
