What the hell are we getting ourselves into here? I pulled this from a site Ali had linked in a different post. (http://www.iraqwarnews.net/)

I am far from a conspiracy theorist, and I don't think there is some shadow government out there trying to sneek our freedom's away from us, but look at what we're doing to ourselves. Where does this road go, and how come nobody is asking any questions??

In an attempt to once again enforce political correctness, schools in Washington State are banning negativity at sports events.

They have "Boo Police," who monitor chanting and cheers to ensure that they're not too negative.

On the banned list:

booing
disrespectful chants or yells
foot stomping
waving when a player is shooting a free throw
full face paint
"#1" foam fingers

They allege that the ban is necessary because rowdy fans were causing fights.

So why not arrest the people that cause the fights? Naaah, we'll just use it as an opportunity to ban anything that makes anyone feel bad. You can see the video here
The big danger in rules like this is that they start to incorporate group thinking. Society becomes paralyzed because everyone is socialized to never criticize anyone or anything; never make anyone else feel bad. Weighed down in societal rules, it's easy to look for someone to tell you how to behave, how to live, how to think.

And then, of course, it's easier to accept a government controlling your life - at least you don't have to track all of those behavioral rules anymore, because someone will do it for you. Make no mistake about it - once you start instituting rules like this, it's easier to institute the next one. And the next. And the next. Until finally, individuality is bad, and personal rights are nonexistent. People live in fear of criticism, fear of being different, fear of standing out.

Start socializing an entire society this way, and you really have problems. Start indoctrinating group thinking, and you can really get things moving.

What happens when socialism, communism, and altruism are the reigning philosophies? Well, then liberty dies, and the great American Experiment is no more.

Enforcing group "niceness" seems benign if you only look at the surface. Look beneath the surface, and you see the inherent, glaring danger.

After all, this country wouldn't exist if a group of colonists had feared offending.

A lot of things have gone too far. Over here there were parents taking video of their kids on the beach & they were arrested & the video confiscated.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting some of the stuff along those lines when I was in Australia. When I was in Sydney at the Opera House there were some kids doing some school re enactment thing and I was about to take a photo when my missus told me not to and told me it would get me in trouble, I was like wtf??? I mean it was a touristy thing to do, it wasn't like I was trying to photograph them at the beach in their swimwear or anything!:eek

PC thinking sucks, and creating these rules is ridiculous. I agree with Pete, that would be interesting to see them enforce.

Geez. Big Brother has existed in the United States ever since Jamestown. Back then, it was called De La Warr's harsh discipline. A couple centuries later, we fought from the the visible Big Brother, George III and British Empire. They weren't Big Brother, however, it was a dictatorship. The real Big Brother were the Founding Fathers. They were all very-well educated, and they were all very wealthy. Now, a Democracy is supposed to be a body of government in which the common man reigns supreme. However, in the 18th century, the common man wasn't well educated at all, and they sure as hell weren't wealthy. As the saying goes "to the victor goes the spoils" and "whoever governs gets to write history."

Years later, the Constitution was drafted under total secrecy! There were those who wanted to create a new government similar to England's monarchy, and others who wanted a state-dominated government. No one ever mentioned the common man.

If our gov't was founded by Big Brother, its very possible that we are living under Big Brother today. Maybe not as "out there" as 1984's description, but still fueled by the wealthy and powerful and rule as autocratically. I mean, when was the last time we had a president who wasn't rich as hell?
