I hate it when people refer to our fore fathers as Christians. They weren't. So people need to stop. This is the kind of thing that if someone sarcastically did that to me in person, I would consider it shoving religion down my throat.

Our country was founded on Biblical principles. It is part of our history. It is also a part of our history that we have freedom of religion. We can have freedom of one without denying the history of the other.

Sorry someone tried to use that as an argument to shove religion down your throat - but no one's perfect and not all people know how to share their faith without being offensive.

humor so I'll drop it here to avoid a fight.
Well, it was worth a try anyway. :(

I don't know why you're so mad dude. It was a stand up comedian.

The majority of the founders were Christians though. I'm not sure where this new thing is coming from, but I notice that they always pick one or two lines out of lifetimes of writings, and use them to build the argument.

Either way... wrong forum for that discussion. Sorry you're mad. I honestly thought I was posting it in the way least likely to cause argument.

Yes it was founded on biblical principles, but most of the founding fathers were not Christians. Its well documented.

I'm not mad, I'm just stating my point of view on the comedians lines.

They could always take it out and put it back to the way it was written before 1954 when it was added. The pledge did not have the words "Under God" for the first 62 years it was said... Doesn't sound like something our "Christian" forefathers would have wanted... Hmmm. When it was first changed to have the words "Under God" by the Knights of Columbus in 1951, they lobbied to have it changed into law and failed. It wasn't until 1954 when then President Eisenhower was convinced to change it that it actually became law.
Notice how even in the early 1950's there was a resistance to adding "Under God" Hell, there weren't any Atheists running around trying to keep it out... just a bunch of Christian politicians. Politicians that respected the separation of church and state.
So don't talk to me about the words "Under God" in the pledge of allegiance because we are a Christian nation... it has nothing to do with that, if it did, they would have been added on day 1, not 62 years later.

Once upon a time they use to salute during the pledge known as the Bellamy salute, it ended with the arm outstretched and the palm upwards, but began with the right hand outstretched, palm facing downward. However, during World War II the outstretched arm became identified with Nazism and Fascism, and the custom was changed: today the Pledge is said from beginning to end with the right hand over the heart. So was it wrong to change that to? Change isn't always bad, sometimes it rights, wrongs that were done earlier.
