Which is better of the two technologies?

I have heard that plasma is better than lcd, but I am confused as to why that is the case?

LCD's are lighter, and smaller too, but they are getting larger. Plasma just about gives you a better picture (depends on the model). LCD's have no image burn while Plasma does, albeit not as big a problem as once existed. Plasma is better if your watching in the dark whereas in normal light, LCD gives you a better picture. They last about the same time in terms of life, and LCD uses less energy.

I replaced my 50" LCD with a 50" plasma at Christmas. The plasma wins without a doubt.

- The picture is clearer, brighter, better contrast etc regardless of it being watched in darkness or a lighted room.

- The colors just pop right out.

- Because of the screen on an LCD they sometimes look like it's a matt surface whereas the plasma is nice glass. It can reflect light though but easily avoided if you use your noggin and position your lighting correctly, or better yet have the lamps off.

- The plasma is supposed to last 50,000 hours, and that's a lot of tv viewing time, and the LCD's go through lamps quite frequently. They ain't cheap either.

- Plasma burn in isn't an issue unless you play games and leave it stuck on one scene and walk away.

- Lost pixels isn't much of an issue anymore either. You can't compare the new models to what first came out.

- They do use more electricity but if you can afford the tv you can afford a few extra cents every month.

I wouldn't change back to an LCD.

You might want to consider a LED tv. I thought my plasma was sweet but those kick butt. I could be convinced to trade up if I was 100% sure Mrs.Guyzerr wouldn't have me shot. It isn't something I consider worth dying for... well, not today anywhoo.

You mean those oLED from Sony? Heard they were prohibitively expensive to have at the moment?

Gimmie a Mennonite and I'll see if I can find a link. They are a bit pricey but what new technology isn't when it first comes out. That's why I wait a year or two before upgrading. I had my LCD for 3 1/2 years before I thought the prices were reasonable on the plasmas.

Did I tell you about the 3D tv's ? :D

I don't think I knew you were from " over there ". Do they still lop off ed's over there? :D

Not quite sure what you mean by that, but when Vista came out, the excuses they made to the reason why Vista was so expensive, according to Mr. Gates, was because of the exchange rate, like whatever

Lop = to chop off
off = to remove
an ed = a head.... like a human head. :24:

I have no idea what your exchange rate is but most electronics are produced in Japan. You could always take a look see what the rate difference is. I think one of the big reasons for the higher cost would be due to shipping difficulties and distances. It's considerably farther than Japan to North America.

But it seems whatever the price is in the US (I know you are from Canada) e.g. If something cost $1000, it tends to cost £1000 regardless of the exchange rate
