The last few days I'd been having some issues with my computer. I ran an antivirus protection, spyware remover, and registry cleaner. Nothing was found other than typical crap. I knew something was still wrong so I downloaded a malware removal tool and found I had TWO trojans! But when I tried to remove them it didn't work.

Now I'm really good with my comp and keeping it protected, but I failed this time. I know I've had viruses before but they were simple to take care of, oooo but not this time. It was completely fudgering up my computer!

So I did a system restore back to before the issues and low and behold that did nothing.

Well today I decided I better go ahead and just start over reinstalling windows and all. I of course let everything go that was on it previously as I didn't know what was and what wasn't infected.

I haven't had to reinstall in ages. I forgot how big of a PITA it can be. I did get all my devices updated so they are all working properly, YAY.

NOW I'm waiting for the 101 windows updates! These are just the important ones! LOL So like 3 years worth of updates to have reinstall. It's taking forever! UGH. And of course while waiting for that I'm trying to go through and find all the programs I need to download.

I'm just having one problem right now, that I will worry about after all the updates install, and it's my wireless signal strength. It's not as good as it was before. But that won't be a hard fix either.

Bet your asses I'm glad I don't have to do this very often!!

I so should have a few drinks after this is all done.

Gads! I have dial up..... Just imagine my dilemma. This computer had an antivirus program installed when I got it.... but when it was time to go to a newer version.... with dial up..... it wouldn't work!

I was without any protection for months. The computer got slower and slower and was doing all sorts of silly stuff. Finally, a friend came over with a disk and set me up with avast! When I ran a full scan..... which took a long time.... it put a whole bunch of stuff in the virus vault. Malware, trojans, etc. The computer is now running smoother.....

It slows down when I first log on each day when it uploads updates and does a system scan. After that..... no worries.

I'm glad you know how to figure it out.

Cheers!

I'm happy to hear that about Avast! I have always used AVG or Norton when it was good years ago. So today I decided to try Avast. I'm hoping if anything happens I will have good luck with it.

Thanks. I've always used SB and already have the MwB and Avast. I will check out the SoftX and have to remember the MRT thing!

best investment you can make is to buy a drive image program

in 15 minutes you would have everything reinstalled on the computer

you can do it at anytime but I do it right after I get everything loaded into the computer that I want and before I get using it much.

I use Avast all the time, but scanned last night just to see. Avast found 2 trojans! I thought it was supposed to catch them before they install themselves.

Malwarebytes didn't find anything else.

Then I used the Spybot & found 2 tracking cookies. Not bad.

MRT found nothing.

I'll download the Softx later this evening.

Yea it would probably be a good investment for someone who has a lot of trouble and has to do this more than once every few years.

I am ok with doing it all myself it keeps me on my toes. Thanks for the idea tho.

It takes me probably 4 hours to do a reformat. And it usually is a PITA as I forget or miss installing some drivers.

If i didn't have so many updates fail yesterday it would have been done yesterday, but now I'm going through each to see what to do.

Now I'm installing Service Pack 1.
