The other day I found slides at me dads house of our time in Africa....now i know slides of that date deteriorate and some have, as they have gone almost black...but there are many that are still in good enough shape...so question: will they scan or would a professional camera person be able to make photos out of them for me? or is there away i can do it all myself as these are one of a kind stuff... my mum looks like a model in them...black beehive and stilettos in the middle of a mud hut village, surrounded by tribes men.:thumbup:24:

Jim had a slide attachment to one of his scanners it worked well.... but if there are some that are damaged I would suggest getting them professionally done.

a proffessional might be able to get most of them back.......they tend to be excellent at what they do

back in my early 20s i found a roll of film from my Junior high trip to new york. It seemed to still process. Some of the pictures were hazy but you could still make them out.

I have scanned shoe boxes full of slides. The results were mixed depending what brand the original was and their age. Many Kodak slides had " yellowed " over the years and the Fuji had a lot of green in them.

I was able to save many after endless hours of post processing work but the results were still no where near what I would have liked. Dust is also a real issue. What can't be seen with the naked eye will show up in your finished scan.

If you know how to handle a photo editing program and have access to a scanner I would say that you should give it a whirl. If not, then I suggest you take a few slides in to who ever you decide to use and have them give it a shot. Then you can be the judge. Make sure you find out what they will do as far as " clean up " is concerned and also the exact cost per image.

Here's some examples of shots I took on slides about 30 or so years ago. Keep in mind the hours I spent just to get them to this stage. My next project would be to work on the colors in order to get them correct.

Those are some very nice pics Guy

I like the first one a lot

But the last one is a close second

Thanks but you should have seen them when the slides were fresh.

The first one is at Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta. The rest are in the jasper National Park, Alberta area.

I had the old slides my parents had of me when I was a little girl made into photos and they turned out well, just call a local place and see if they do it first I think most do, I think walmart might even do it now actually.

:thumbup:cool

I wasted half my day yesterday trying to load the software for my all in one printer scanner piece of bloody brand new HP crap. Notice i held back on using the word fuck there.:D

Anyway...so I'll have to find the disk for it as the downloaded software is shite. But if the scanner doesn't do the the job I'll rent a slide machine thingy and use my cam...lmao:D:24: OR as some of you have said i'll take it professionally....but for now, I'll piss around with it and see what I can unsuccessfully do because I like to waste my time and money lmao
