Pawn Stars. Both my wife and I are hooked on this show. It is so interesting. What I've noticed is that some items brought into the pawn shop are too valuable, they would be better off being advertised in a specialty magazine, auctioned or even eBay.

The funniest thing I've seen so far:

* Big Haus buys a $35000 hot air balloon.

* A women who brings in an antique Faberge spider broach. When asked how much she wanted, she said "I don't know, a couple of thousand." Rick Harrison (owner) pauses and says, "because I have a conscious, I'll give you $15000. The woman says "holy shit" and then asks for $17000. She finally accepted $15k, but makes you wonder about people. :24:

Great show! We also watch American Pickers- not quite as good but watchable.

I think the opposite lol I watch both too but I think the guys on pawn stars like to screw people over more so they can make a buck. That broach was crazy! I also agree with you on the part where they should go somewhere else I mean if you were told something was worth over 17g and they offered me 15 and you know they are going to make a bundle on it, why not sell it independantly and make the extra for yourself!

They are running a business, they are not end buyers or collectors. In many cases when they are not sure what it is, they bring in an expert who quotes a price in front of the seller. This is very fair because they could get the quote in private and then take advantage, but they don't. The broach is the perfect example. He basically handed the spider broach lady an extra $13k unsolicited. They make it clear their interest is in reselling the item. If the seller wants top dollar, go directly to the collectors, not a pawn shop. :)

Yea, I love those people who find out an item is worth x amount of money, so that's how much they want to shop to buy it for.

Ummmm....no.

Yes it can be funny when they bicker. :)

On a separate note, I'm sitting in a hotel right now watching it. There is a guy trying to sell a Col. Sanders (Kentucky Fried Chicken) suit for $40k... I said $40000. No, they did not buy it. :D

True But. there is a chance the "pawnstars
" have a deal made up with there little friends to appraise mutch lower then the real price then they buy it for that much lower price. then the "Pawn Stars" get some and then they give some to the appraiser. But i think they're pretty fair. all that i said was just a theory.
