Yozwers... I had no idea you needed a passport to get into Canada now... I saw an older fellow that used to come into the store I worked at. He said he was going to Montreal and that he had to actually buy a passport. I don't keep up on that stuff but that seems silly. Oh i know it has to be due with the economy and government but its just weird u used to be able to just drive across the Maine borders into Quebec.

It's amazing what gets made into law that most people don't realize while they're busy being distracted by their lives...

Yeah, that's been in effect since 2008 I think? Maybe it was beginning this year? But yeah.... You best have your papers in order if you plan to travel Dana.

Plus you have to get the new type of passport w/a chip in it. Which, about a month after they came out, were found to be easily hacked and now you have to buy a protective sleeve to go with them.

News was coming out around in 2006 about these coming travel restrictions and new passports. We went ahead and got ours before the new ones came out. That gives us a little while for them to hopefully work out the bugs for the next issuance.

It's a Brave New World out there...

It actually came into effect on June 1st or July 1st. Both countries had a grace period. That may be over now, I'm not sure.

BTW, you only need a passport if you travel by air or sea. If you drive or walk across they are accepting the enhanced drivers license or a passport.

The whole thing is a fucking farce and another cash grab if you axe me.

Kinda like the program they put into place after all the enhanced security at our airports. For $90 a year, you can be vetted by Homeland Security and then you don't have to have the hassle of being searched every time you fly.

All it takes is money................... Or flying on a private plane. Supposedly there is no security there either. I wouldn't know for sure as I have never been on a private plane.

If you fly in a private plane you don't go through the same scrutiny as on a commercial flight.

Speaking of security. I have been tempted many times to axe the security idiots why they haven't found a way to confiscate my arms and fists. They are quite experienced and have the ability to do a hell of a lot of damage. A hell of a lot more than the average stupid box cutter. I'm not bragging, I'm being honest and it's a question that's been bugging me for ions. Or worse yet... what about a woman's super long finger nails? They could rip eyes out in a heartbeat.

This homeland security thing is making a lot of people very, very rich. Amazing what instilling a ton of fear in people does.

Ah, I was wrong. It was $128/yr and it went under:

Clear shuffles through its last upstanding citizen, tells the rest to fall in line

Give it time. Personally, I keep hoping sanity will return.

My SIL is unfortunate enough to share a name w/a woman on a watch list. She is inconvenienced every time she flies.

One would think just a bit of money could be spent to tighten up those lists to make them more reliable. Too bad all the money is being given to Wall Street instead.

Ya gotta laugh at the stupidity of it when little kids are on the list. Also, when mothers are made to drink their breast milk you know the system has lost it's collective mind.

Isn't it though???? It's rather sad. Live Free or Die?????? :24: Don't Tread on Me???? :24:

Or my favorite from way back in our history: Unite or Die. :24:

This little guy sums it up nicely:

The program your link talks about isn't a way to bypass security, it's a way to bypass the line at security. I worked for the TSA for 8 months, and we had a similar program in Jacksonville, I even think the cost was the same. All it does is get you to the checkpoint without waiting in line, it doesn't allow you to not be screened. The only people who get to completely bypass security are federal agents and flight deck officers flying armed.

It's like anywhere, there's good ones and bad ones. I had plenty of days where I felt like slapping the hell out of the travelling public. Especially the one who wanted to convince me that water is not a liquid.

I used to joke that thanks to Bush's Texas drawl we made a big mistake. Instead of fighting terrorism we started a War on Tourism. :D

It is a war on Tourism. Tourism is down as foreign travelers are vacationing elsewhere rather than be subjected to our 'new' way of doing things.

I can't say that I blame them. I'd much prefer friendly & competent too.

Tho, worrying about your stuff getting lost, wrecked or stolen is nothing new.:willy_nilly:

I'm now one of those sad to say. I live 3 miles from the border and used to cross it quite often. I no longer like that border people and their attitude and because of it I prefer to spend my $$ in Canada. It's a shame considering I always wanted to move down there but a team of wild horses couldn't drag me across now.

So some of you don't get your nose out of joint I will say it isn't any better coming back to the Canadian side. One is no better than the other.

Sadly, you're not the first person I've heard say that. It really sucks. Especially down here in Floriduh. We depend on tourism dollars and they have been short every year since.

hehehehehehehehehe..... But hey, it doesn't stop Disney from raising their prices yet again. You'd think they'd LOWER their prices????? Who has $80 per person to blow these days? Oh wait, those bailed out bankers need vacations dont they??? Tho, good Americans that they are they probably take their vacation dollars out of our Country?:24:

It does seem by design doesn't it?

*note to self that this is your ONE post in politics today cuz all you're doing is*

Maybe no brains, but you gotta have a hell of a poker face sometimes :D

I got asked to do a bag search because something looked like a big liquid (the X-Rays aren't infallible). Well, as I'm searching the bag I realize it's about a 9" glass dildo. So I looked up and said "You may want to put this in your checked bag next time......sir." :eek
