Has anyone heard of this “pass out” game?? Can some of you younger OT’ers tell me if this is for real or not?!?!?!? These teenagers are using a rope to choke themselves until they pass out, as a sort of drug. But this is the second child that took it too far and is now dead from a stupid game!!! Please tell me this is not something of the norm. I’ve got teenagers up and coming and I am scared to death!!! I would just die!!! My eyes are welling up right now knowing the pain that mother is going through. I just could not imagine!!!

I've never heard of that. My brother is 15 and his friends don't do stupid crap like that, atleast not that we all know about.

My boyfriend had to be passed out in boot camp/training, and there's specific way to do it so you don't kill the person, just pass them out for a few minutes, then they come back. It's possible to pass out, you just have to do it the "right way" (for lack of a better word) in order not to get hurt, I guess. :dunno

Kids definitely shouldn't be doing that, they don't know what they're doing and clearly kids are getting hurt and killed from it.

Choking yourself until you pass is not harmful, it's when you fall and hit the ground or once you blackout the fact that you cannot remove whatever it is that's choking you, like a rope. Passing out is nothing more than a lack a blood to the brain, like when you are sitting down for a long time and jump up quick and everything goes black.

Well Carebear, just hope that they are smart enough not to do anything stupid. I have never done anything like that. The only thing close to crazy I have ever done is a car chase through town, and that's because there was a truck with 6 21+ guys in it, then me, my friend, and his g/f. Odds weren't good. It was fun though, nothing I would do normally however. No drugs, alcohol, or other stupid stuff though. Hopefully your kids will make the right choices.

I believe its all in how you teach them. I know when I was a teenager living at home, none of that stuff interested me. And even if it did, I would be too terrified of doing it because I know my dad would tear my ass up! I never wanted to dissappoint my parents and I think thats what kept me on the right track.
Dont get me wrong, I hope to goodness that my kids are smart enough to keep school and education on the brain instead of peer pressure and doing stupid ass things!

Well it can be in how you teach them, but I think expiriences in life are what really shape a person. I live with my grandma, I have never ever in my life been grounded, don't get in trouble, and can basically do whatever I want. I don't choose not to do stuff out of fear that I will get in trouble, I choose not to do stuff because I know what is stupid and what is not.

I do believe they will be good kids. Especially my oldest. Hes a leader, not a follower. Peer pressure is not an issue for him...he could care less what anyone else thinks. He's got a very strong mind.

But that doesnt mean I wont worry!

You have every right to worry. I know I'm going to be such a worrier when I have kids. I worry about my g/f whenever she drives home from my house at night, or anywhere for that matter. Always have her call me when she gets home to make sure shes alright. A couple times it has been real late and I have followed her all the way home because she was tired. Didn't wanna take any chances. And we live 25 minutes away from each other. I can only imagine how hard it will be to hand over car keys to my children in the future :tard

I'm hoping they change the driving age to 18 before they reach 16!!! LoL!!

For those of us that aren't 18 yet, that would suck though :tard I just think that children need to be taught driving starting at a much earlier age. It should be a required class in middle school (not actual driving, but learning traffic laws and whatnot). Then in high school, they actually drive or something. Plus parents should play a more active role in preparing their children to drive. I will start when they are young, nothing serious, just here and there. I think that driving is a serious thing, and too many unprepared drivers are being put out onto the streets today. That includes people of all ages, teens and elderly especially.

I'm not sure where Tiffin is compared to Cinci, but I'm sure the kid you are talking about is the kid I read about in the news as well.
