Here's a bit:

(NaturalNews) For years, advocates of natural health have been hammering away at the message that soda causes diabetes and obesity.
The soda industry, meanwhile, has remained in denial mode, mirroring
the ridiculous position of the tobacco industry that "nicotine is not
addictive." Soda doesn't cause diabetes, the industry claims, and it's
perfectly safe to consume in essentially unlimited quantities.

The Corn Refiners Association has joined the denial with its own spin campaign that seeks to convince
people High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is totally natural and
completely harmless. HFCS is, of course, the primary sweetener used in
sodas and soft drinks.

Now comes new research presented at the American Heart Association's Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and
Prevention annual conference in San Francisco. This new research
reveals that over the last decade, soda consumption has conservatively
caused:

• 130,000 new cases of diabetes
• 14,000 new cases of heart disease
• 50,000 more "life years" with heart disease over the last decade

"The finding suggests that any kind of policy that reduces consumption might
have a dramatic health benefit," said senior study author Dr. Kirsten
Bibbins-Domingo (associate professor of medicine at the University of
California, San Francisco).

I can say one thing. I quit soda back in April of last year. I consumed quite a bit of it daily. With routine bloodwork it was discovered that I was pre-diabetic. I've maybe had half of a two liter bottle in the past 11 months. I'm 65 pounds lighter and my sugar is at normal levels.

Granted, I've also adjusted my diet. BUT, I had been slacking during the holidays and consuming nice, tasty chocolates and other assorted goodies. My sugar levels remained normal. I've also dropped Splenda & gone back to organic sugar in my coffee. My sugar levels remain normal.

Soda. Not so great........ Regular or diet.

Just passing that on.......

I hate it when people deny things so obvious.

I agree. Consuming Soda is a damage to the body. I lost forty pounds after quiting soda. I now drink water or tea. But even then, not alot of sugar goes into my diet. I'm not a chocolate person, unless I just naturally crave it. But even then, I eat about a forth of that hershey's chocolate bar a day. Not all in one bite, ofcourse. Just tiny nibbles through out the day. Holidays, I stick to the healthy stuff.

It isn't the sodas fault. It's the sugar in the soda just like a gazillion other things we swallow every day. It doesn't matter where the sugar comes from... sugar is sugar... white , brown or otherwise. That said, soda does contain a hell of a lot of it.

Being a diabetic has taught me to read labels on food packaging and I have to tell you I'm amazed what products actually contain sugar. It's fucking everywhere. Even soup. Cans of bloody soup and some have amazing amounts. Pork & beans.. everybody loves 'em especially with a hot dog right. I can't eat 'em because of the amount of sugar in 'em.

Don't believe me.... pick almost any item off your grocers shelf and read the label.

Just passing that on.......

So am I. ;)

I haven't eaten at McUpChucks for years but it doesn't surprise me one bit. There isn't much anywhere that they don't put sugar in and I'm not whistling Dixie.

For the hell of it go to any fast food joints web site and take a look at their lists. It will amaze you. Matter of fact if most people knew how much fat and sugar was in the food they probably wouldn't eat it. The calorie count is out of the world as well.

I think the main problem is with high fructose corn syrup. There has been a corresponding rise in diabetes and obesity since it has been introduced and more and more sweetened products switched to it as a sweetener rather than sucrose. It seems like the body cant handle massive quantities of fructose.
Of course, moderation is the key.

there is close to 30 grams of sugar in a 12 ounce can of soda. . And some people drink more then a 6 pack a day..It's an obvious link to me.

this is what 30 grams of sugar looks like for those that can't picture it.

Na....... a gram of sugar is a gram of sugar regardless of where it comes from. Fructose corn syrup is just easier to use because it's a liquid.

To me the real issue is we as a society have become very dependent on getting the most flavor out of something. Unfortunately the two main " somethings " are fat and sweet. I once employed a gal that was a former manager at a McDonalds and she said the fry salt that they throw all over the buggers was laced with sugar and that's what made them so popular without the consumer even knowing it's there. I don't know how true that was 25 years ago when she told me but I wouldn't doubt it for one second.

I know McDonalds & Wendy's charts states there isn't any sugar in the fries but I tell you my count goes up like a rocket if I eat them. ( from Wendy's... I don't do McDick )
