Interesting facts from IBM statistics about Christmas shopping..

How much shopping did you do online ?

A growing number of shoppers apparently need only the briefest of breaks before diving back in, especially if they can log in to shop.

IBM found that online shopping jumped 16.4 per cent on Christmas Day over last year, and the dollar amount of those purchases that were made using mobile devices leaped 172.9 per cent.

IBM tracks shopping at more than 500 websites other than Amazon.com, which is the largest. It found a huge increase in the number of shoppers making their purchases with iPhones, iPads and Android-powered mobile devices.

None, zilch, zip, zero... I'm not against buying things online, only if it's something I can't find in my area. But sitting at home doing your shopping online is just lazy and takes the fun out of it.

In this case the article points to things bought online on devices for the rise in online shopping..

I know in my case a big cause for me buying somethings online was due to stores not having what I wanted on the shelf and promising it delivered before Dec 24th ( guaranteed ).

Thankfully all I ordered arrived and the only screw up was on something I bought for myself.. I must say the 3 times I was at the Mall was ridiculous for parking with people aiming their cars at you to get stalls.. Makes online shopping much more attractive just for that reason alone..

I do most of my shopping online. Most of PBBB's stuff was bought online. You can indeed get better prices and sometimes free shipping.

I've spent too much money over the last decade shopping online. I have yet to be ripped off.

I detest shopping, so I do all my shopping on Amazon. :dunno

What he said. My incredible social anxiety makes trying to shop during the holidays a horrible experience. I bought some of Abigail's stuff from an on-site store. But I love shopping on Amazon. They have everything, and it's almost always cheaper. And having a warehouse just 20 minutes from my house means I can order stuff and get it next/same day without even having to pay extra. I <3 me some Amazon.

I have Amazon Prime, and the closest warehouse to me seems to be Sparks Nevada, which is about four hours. If I order and it ships from that distro center it gets here the next day as well. Woot woot!!

Well there are cases when in store cannot be beat for customer service.

I think Christmas time is a prime example of when stores offer better deals and more selection because it allows them much more flexibility of stocking much more in a warehouse, and using manufacturers, and have much less staff. So for those of us need to see an item you can go in store but if you want all the models find them best online.. Just my opinion and observation.

I do all my price comparative shopping on line but when it comes down to the actual purchase I buy it at the store for the very reason you mentioned above.

Like you I detest fighting for parking but I will admit I did venture out and visited Best Buy at 7am on Boxing Day. Other than having to stand in line for 1/2 hour at the till to get the gal to grab my item from the cage it wasn't so bad. Fortunately they had one nifty fifty left when it got to be my turn. If they wouldn't have I would been a bit cranky. I saved 31% on Canons best prime lens deal. I tried to buy it on-line when their site opened up on the 24th but they were sold out by the time my turn came up.

This.

Plus, if you're buying stuff for people that live out of the area, you can have it shipped directly to them. So then you avoid the hassle of having to brave the Post Office (which is often times just as bad or worse than the stores).

This is true, we bought a hamper for my boyfriend's parents and had it sent straight to them. It'd be over an hour to take it down to them directly, it was far easier to get it delivered :)

I was in Costco today and to my surprise it was virtually empty at the tills when i went through..

Staples and BestBuy were a different story with the stores looking like a Hurricane hit them.. :24:

I prefer to go out and shop rather than buy online, even in the hustle and bustle of Christmas. However, I had to buy my mother's gift from Amazon since I couldn't find it in the stores. My husband on the other hand hates to shop so he did the majority of his online.
