On Socialism in Russia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQsceZ9skQI

Everyone's favourite Noam Chomsky explains in 10 minutes why the Russian perversion of socialism was called socialism, and what was achieved by doing so. Excerpt taken from Manufacturing Consent.

An interesting look at propaganda and totalitarianism.

sad fact of life in the education of the USA. they do not discuss the Russian Revolution in US history courses, if they do, they brush over the fact of what Lenin did.

It's the same in Britain pretty much, In spite of Russia being one of the UK's older allies, we learnt very little about it. I remember having a debate after reading Animal Farm, and that's it.

Chomsky's thesis here is interesting to say the least.

Really? Things must have changed alot in the last 20 years since I left school. I studied the Russian revolution in detail for my History GCSE. Sad if that's changed.:thumbdown

idk, I was taught all about it in my education

The Commies were worse than the Nazis. Read "Hellstorm: The death of Nazi Germany, 1944-1947. It is the ONLY book I have ever read where I had to put it down and walk away from it. It details the various Russian war crimes that were perpetrated against the German civilian population during and after the war.

makes you wonder how the Russians perceive American history or world history for that matter

That would be very interesting. What's even more interesting is how Russian's perceive Russian history. I used to work with a Russian woman and hearing her opinion was really very interesting. She was gutted when communism ended, which is why she left.

Libertarian Socialism

:24::24::24:

What a crock of shit

But then what do you expect from Chumpsky :D

There there. We know it's a little over your head. Why don't you go play with some toys whilst the adults have a discussion?
