Oil consumption (most recent) by country

click on the little clocks, it will give a few recent years, 2000 and up, of the oil used by a lot of countries.

now i want to say something here before we go any further. the US is the #1 consumer of oil. 20 MILLION barrels a day. but if you follow the years you can see the growth by subtracting. ours is interesting. we use the most but our growth rate at is were is small a few hundred thousand extra per day while others add a million plus from year to year and people bitch about the US?

there i made my peace, maybe.

what im doing is trying to figure out some things, like how much are we really using? alot, more than anyone else. no debate there. but i also want to know what the growth is like from year to year it tells me how much our consumption is growing or shrinking.

now i want everyone to see this:

Date Amount Rank 2007 20,680,000 #1
2005 20,800,000 #1
2004 20,730,000 #1
2003 20,030,000 #1
2001 19,650,000 #1

this is the barrels per day used by the US. look at 2007, now look at 2005. in two years our use went down. INTERESTING. it seems we've been trying to reduce our use on oil. how awesome! and its even lower than the year 2004 as well. our need for oil is great, no doubt there, but the change in amounts used year to year is very small compared to other countries. difference between 07 and 01: 1,1150,000 barrels per day used. not great but not bad either considering how much we consume.

look at china

Date Amount Rank 2007 7,578,000 #3
2005 6,534,000 #2
2004 6,391,000 #3
2001 4,570,000 #4

they're consumption rate is substantially higher. compared to us their growth rate of demand is higher than ours. difference between 07 and 01: 3,008,000. wow. and people bitch about the added amounts we use every year? lol

here's japan:

Date Amount Rank 2007 5,007,000 #4
2005 5,353,000 #3
2003 5,578,000 #2
2001 5,290,000 #3

growth rate for oil use is reversing. their growth rate in use is rather low compared to ours. even if they hover around #3 in highest use, that's impressive. difference betwee 07 and 01: -283000 hotness!

i always expect those who use the most to use lots more from the previous year. so far i'm getting mixed results.

this is russia, not what i expected:

Date Amount Rank 2007 2,858,000 #5
2006 2,916,000 #1
2005 2,500,000 #5
2001 2,595,000 #6

they're about #5 in oil consumption but again their growing demands arent very high. they even went down from 06 to 07 and 01 to 05. with that the total gain in use from 01 to 07 wasnt even 300K barrels. i'd say that's very low. total difference between 07 and 01: 263,000. very good, quite low given the time span.

an interesting side bar, the US is also #3 in oil production. following russia and saudia arabia taking the top spot. we even produce more than double what iran and china produce together and they're currently #'s 4 and 5.

NationMaster - World Statistics, Country Comparisons check out the whole website, its a treasure trove of information about just any statistic you can think of.

Civil and political liberties by country. Definition, graph and map.

i found that interesting, saudia arabia and china rate as the lowest and we do business with them. how awesome is that?:(
