Is the NAU a real thing that may be in the works? I keep seeing all kinds of conspiracy theories about it but is it real?
The only official government site that discusses anything that comes close is this one.

Security and Prosperity Partnership Of North America

From what I read on that site it is not exactly an NAU but is it a first step?
And speaking hypothetically, if the NAU was a real possibility would it necessarily be a bad thing?

Rumor. NAFTA is the closet thing to that NAU thing that we'll see in our lifetimes.

The US has too much to loose but going to a common money with the likes of Mexico...Cananda too. ALthough I'm not totally against annexing Canada and removing the French element...LOL!!!

real it will just take time
i was freaked at first and against it
but over time i could at least think pros and cons
but you never know what will really happen
if it were up to me
we would live in a fully peaceful futuristic society
without any discrimination
where everyone can spend more time focused on being truely happy
and loving
did i ever mention that some of my friends in high school
told me i was like dr jeckle and mr hide

I don't...individuality is what we have here in the States. If Canada wants to a part of us, sure why not. If Mexico wants to be a part of us...well, we may have to put that one to a vote....but making something like the EU could be disasterous in this part of the world.

Europe is MUCH more diverse and complicated than the Americas, I can guarantee you that, and its working for them just fine. :dunno

Of course ours would have to be customized to make democracy the number one interest overall.

Sure, you can guarantee that because you can't be held responsible for the dribble coming out of your mouth. Simple matter of fact is that I can see more countries leaving the EU in the next 5-10 years. The UK really isn't conforming to it, Germany is a part of it only because they, IMHO, are still trying to get back into the good graces of the rest of the Europeans. The French, well, offer them some fresh bread and some stinky cheese they'll bend over backwards for you.

I'm not sure how you can say they're more diverse, unless you're simply looking at their languages...

Their geographic area contains much more ethnicities and cultures.

Their geographic area contains much more ethnicities and cultures.

Right, and 99.999999% of those ethnicities are represented here in the US, not to mention all of the native peoples, plus millions of immigrants from Asia, PLUS millions of decendants of peoples forced into slavery, mostly from Africa. They were put into slavery by other tribes and sold to mostly the Dutch, who in turn shipped them across the Atlantic amongst other places, and they ended up being sold here in the Colonies/United States.

Now who's diverse?

Europe still. You forget that most ethnicities are largely "Americanized" and have lost much of their ethnic identity.

If this were to happen I think a common currency would be way down the road. Something that would take decades to set up.
The real problem I think would be Mexico. Their economy is in such shambles that people flood across the border looking for work. I'm not sure how it would benefit the US or Canada to link of Mexico in the current state it's in.
