What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I think she's a brat and I'm glad the judge has ruled against it for now.
MORRIS COUNTY — A Superior Court judge turned down today a Lincoln Park teen's request to order her parents to pay for private school and college tuition after she moved out of their house.
Rachel Canning, a senior at Morris Catholic High School, sued her parents to force them to pay her child support, private school tuition, medical and related bills, college expenses and legal fees.
Rachel's father, retired Lincoln Park Police Chief Sean Canning, said she voluntarily left home in October because she didn't want to abide by household rules, such as being respectful, keeping a curfew and doing some chores.
She has been living at the home of her best friend, the daughter of prominent Morris County attorney John Inglesino, according to court documents.
Today, Judge Peter Bogaard sided with the parents, refusing to issue the emergency order, which would have granted her more than $600 a week in financial support.
"Do we want to establish a precedent where parents live in basic fear of establishing rules of the house?" he asked during today's court hearing.
Did Judge Bogaard make the right call? Should Rachel Canning's parents been required to pay their daughter's outstanding tuition bill at the Denville school as well as support her financially when she starts college in the fall?
