Yeah haven't listen to them in a decade, but yeah, don't miss free stuff, and there is a chance it might be okay... .... ...

Just listened to it for the first time (got the FLAC version, if you dont know about FLAC it's basically an encoding device to shrink high quality music files into smaller versions with no loss of quality)

On first listen, I am a little unsure about THe Slip, but I'll give it a lot of time.

Ghosts compared to NIN's other albums, Ghosts is the worst. Still not that bad, since I like ambient music.

I like the process that was went through to make Ghost...and i can dig it when keeping that in mind...but its sub-par to anything else NIN has released. After the first listen or two, im still not crazy about "The Slip". Its growing on me, but more slow than earlier releases.

Listening to thew slip atm. So far, it has a similar sound to "With Teeth" and "Year Zero" combined. Damn, I was hoping he'd go back to the better sound he had in "The Downward Spiral" and "The Fragile"

It's never a good idea for musicians to go backwards

Disagreed. Heaps of musicians have changed back to their older styles, because fans were disappointed with their new styles. Besides, better the sound/style were at it's best, than to stay at the newer crappier one.

However, if you meant it's bad to make songs that are almost the same as the old ones, then I'd agree with you.

Isn't that akin to selling out?

I just don't agree :) lol

I believe music is made for the sake of music, and good music is designed to push forward, and to revert to a style that best pleased your audience will not make for a memorable record.

At some point every artist worth his salt alienates their fanbase.

Bob Dylan said it himself: "Just because you like my stuff doesn't mean I owe you anything"

Agreed.

Thank God the latest stuff I've heard from Jewel seems to be going back to her old sound. Once she released that Intuition song and started allowing it to be used for a damn razor commercial I lost interest...that CD sucked.
