A photographer is only as good as the equipment he uses, and a good lens is essential to taking good pictures! Do any of our facebook fans use any of the NIKKOR lenses? Which is your favorite and what types of situations do you use it for?

...caused something of a shitstorm.png

I think the replies were quite harsh, even if the comment was a stupid one (albeit, not entirely without merit -e.g. a good lens can help).

They apologised in another post and clarified it to the way most sensible people would have read it.

We know some of you took offense to the last post, and we apologize, as it was not our aim to insult any of our friends. Our statement was meant to be interpreted that the right equipment can help you capture amazing images. We appreciate the passion you have for photography and your gear, and know that a great picture is possible anytime and anywhere.

The actual statement, that someone can only be as good as their equipment, is ridiculous.

Your ability, the ability of anyone or anything at anything, is determined by a multitude of factors.

The clarification in the apology statement makes better sense.

The right equipment (in this case lens) can make a difference. Some are just better than others, of that there is no question.

However, even supposedly 'inferior' lenses or equipment can capture stunning images, which is what I've personally tried to stress in the various photo competitions here.

That's how I interpreted Nikon's original statement. :dunno It never ceases to amaze me at how people (not you, people in general) seem to just want to find controversy in everything.

The right equipment DOES make a difference. Otherwise professional photographers would just carry around point and shoot cameras.
But why don't they?
A great photograph can be ruined by graininess, being out of focus, exposure, etc.

If professional equipment doesn't make a difference, then all of you that call yourselves photographers should save your money and chuck your gear. So who's first?

I didn't think so
