Yeah it's a bit premature, but I thought I'd throw one down anyways so we can discuss our playoff picks and whatnot

This year I'm going for the 'Hawks in the west (the Cryotes as the dark horse)
And The Bruins because it's Pjs team.

from the East: Penguins (depending on the goal-tending) Devils (if they can score) Crapitals (if Theodore gets hot watch out) Flyers/Montreal (scoring is at a premium) Buffalo (again, if Miller plays on top of his head his team might go far) Senators need a good scoring punch and some good breaks)...so pretty much all teams need the goal-tending issue...once that plays in some teams favor, they will represent the East. Who is that going to be? I think the Crapitals will depend a little too much on Overchicken and I see a team like Buffalo squeaking it out....

Blackhawks do not stand a chance.

No goaltending
You never know. One of them could get hot. The Sens went to the final with Emery one year. Chicago has a good, young team and if their goaltending gets their poop in a group I can see them going far.

Phoenix has had a good season but they've done such a good job of emulating the Winnipeg Jets in the past. Why stop now? I'd like to see them do well simply because I adore Lomborghini (that's Lombardi for all you poor shmos that don't post on cf.com :p Actually, that's everyone here. Anyway...)

No one's picking San Jose? No one? C'mon...they've got Thornton and Marleau and...and...OK, I quit...gotta laugh...

I must admit that I don't pay as much attention to the Eastern conference. It didn't help that I was down south for half the hockey season this year. The only team I DON'T want to go anywhere is the Capitals. I've always been a bit of a Boston fan. I wouldn't mind if the Pens repeated.

:D

I don't think the Pens a good, dependable starting goaltender. Miller is looking like a young Roy

I'm going to prematurely say Pens/Hawks...Pens because they are my boys and Hawks because I want to see Hossa not win another cup. :D

But in all seriousness it's kind of up for grabs. The West has a lot of talent and in the East, if the Pens can't find a way to beat Jersey's trap and score more against Washington...ouch. But Fleury does tend to shine in the playoffs. Last night he had three quick saves in a row that were highlight reel worthy! I think it's going to hinge on him pulling it together per usual and Gonchar staying healthy. Gonch is always our x-factor for sure!

Sorry, i went on and on there... :p

PS: saying goodbye to the arena last night was a tough one...Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis has just left the building. :(

BC I thought that arena had the reputation of being the pits?

I remember when the old Wings stadium the Olympia was torn down. The seats went straight up. Unless you were in the very upper deck section the seats were fantastic as it felt like you were on top of the rink.

One of the last games there I saw a 10 lb carp thrown on the ice from the next to the highest level :D

It was epic and like watching something in slow motion

Ah the good old days.

Yes, to the outside observer or anyone that's walked the concourse between periods, that building is a crap fest. But to those of us who have walked through Gate 3 for years and years...figured out how to strategically hold the stall door shut and still balance enough to sit and pee (yeah, you boys have all the luck) felt the floor shake when we stomped on it, sat through a power outage and fire (great timing that...it was right when Lemieux was fighting for funding for a new arena...if that wasn't a call to arms, i don't know what was), witnessed Lemieux retire and return and retire, heard him announce the Pens were going to stay forever in Pittsburgh, or got to see the cup on the ice (after we won it...not so much when your boys did) or actually was blessed to see an event with the roof retracted before they built E and F levels, it does put a little lump in your throat. Like many of the players have said over the years, the place has a soul and a life of its own...and not just that fuzz that's growing around the tv in C17. Ah...twas a good old friend!

So, after the first day of the playoffs the series look like this:

Ottawa beat Pittsburgh 5-4
Philly beat NJ 2-1
Phoenix beat Detroit 3-2
Colorado beat SJ 2-1

LOL, when was the last time SJ had their poop in a group for the playoffs? 2004? :D

Actually, Fleury beat Pittsburgh. :( If you let Neil and Ruutu score on you soft like that, you're beating yourself. Not to mention, if your goalie who has a Stanley Cup under his belt actually shows up, 4 goals should win you the game. I know two of those goals were bad bounces. But he should have been pulled after that Neil goal. Pathetic. :p

Hopefully they shape up by Friday.

Oh and F U Flyers!! :fing27
