Is there any surprise that James Murdoch who owns "News of the World" is son of media baron Rupert Murdoch, owner of Faux News and The Wall Street Journal among the vast holdings of a world wide conservative media empire? As Bill Maher says "The shit does not fall far from the bag."

RIP News Of The World Scandal Was Its Product Scandal Was Its Downfall- The Washington Post.

The newspaper recently spent a lot of time in court, settling claims from people who claimed their phones had been hacked. Actress Sienna Miller collected 100,000 pounds ($160,000), and former Scotland football star Andy Gray got 20,000 pounds ($32,000). Publicist Max Clifford reportedly won 1 million pounds ($1.6 million) in a private settlement and former Professional Football Association chief Gordon Taylor reportedly won 700,000 pounds ($1.12 million).

Amid scandal, Murdoch Kills off News of the World- Mercury News.

Mushrooming allegations of immoral and criminal behavior at the paper—including bribing police officers for information, hacking into the voice mail of murdered schoolgirls' families and targeting the phones of the relatives of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and the victims of the London transit attacks—cast a dark cloud over News Corp.'s multibillion-dollar plan to take full ownership of British Sky Broadcasting, an operation far more valuable than all of Murdoch's British newspapers.

Exerpted from another forum:

Anyone interested in the official paper trail of how Faux News was created?

http://gawkernet.com/ailesfiles/ailesfiles.html

Notable excerpts:

http://gawker.com/5814150/roger-ailes-secret-nixon+era-blueprint-for-fox-news

Why the rest of the media hasn't this picked up and destroyed this clear propaganda machine is beyond me. It's probably because all of this was created from within previous administrations and they'd lose their precious access.

"A Plan for Putting the GOP on TV News" is an unsigned, undated memo calling for a partisan, pro-GOP news operation to be potentially paid for and run out of the White House. Aimed at sidelining the "censorship" of the liberal mainstream media and delivering prepackaged pro-Nixon news to local television stations, it reads today like a detailed precis for a Fox News prototype.
There are actually people who watch this network like it's their religion

I found this news extremely interesting in that regard:

http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/UPDATE-1-News-Corp-targetukfocus-1850618853.html?x=0

A major News Corp shareholder said on Thursday that News International Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks should quit because of a telephone hacking scandal that has engulfed the company.

"For sure she has to go, you bet she has to go," Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal told the BBC's Newsnight programme.

The scandal has piled pressure on Brooks, who has not resigned despite a call from former friend Prime Minister David Cameron and other politicians to do so.

"Ethics to me is very important, definitely. I will not tolerate to deal with a company that has a lady or a man that has any sliver of doubt on her or his integrity," Alwaleed said.

Alwaleed says his Kingdom Holding is the second biggest shareholder in News Corp and controls seven percent of the votes.

So Saudi Arabia's royal family has enough clout in FOX to publically demand terminations? Interesting indeed.

This is how it works in the halls of power, top Lieutenants take the bullet when necessary to shield the boss, just like under W and Reagan.

What's really hilarious is that now there are adverts every two seconds on TV for things like the Sunday Mirror etc etc, ie. other crap tabloid papers. One of them really cracked me up - they ended the advert with 'a newspaper you can trust!' To which I screamed 'SUBTLE!!!'
