When I ate an orange I read the 3 pages of drug warnings that came with this new med. First page about takes the wind out of your sails. It says it is a drug that is used to treat skin cancer, ovarian cancer or chronic myelocytic leukemia that is recurrent, has spread, or cannot be helped with surgery. It says to wear disposible gloves while handling the med or the bottle it comes in. Follow your docs advice for disposal of gloves or expired med.WTF! I am supposed to put it in my body but wear gloves to do that?? On the plus side, when I finally got over the wierd feeling it gives you I went back and layed down in bed with the TV and light on. That was about 9 last night. Next thing I knew it was 5:30 this morning. Most I have slept in a year. It is hard to describe the feeling I get from this thing. Not quite a buzz, but strange. Guess when it is killing off cells inside of you it does that. Go back to every Thursday for blood tests again and I am sure it will whack out my INR levels so the coumadin should be fun to match up.:24:

Sorry to hear about the cancer. Did I miss a post on it?

Not really. It showed up when the nuke stuff they inject in your veins to check your heart function spread around to my bones. That set off a whole bunch of tests in Dec. of 2011 and then to the cancer center at two different hospitals for bone marrow taps. It is a type of leukemia. Just had the 3rd tap done on Feb.1 and now they want to kill a bunch of platelets cause I have too many. It did good for about 8 months last year but now not so good.

Damn.

When I hear "a form of leukemia" and the person is older in age, I'm guessing the chances aren't good?

Just being blunt and to the point, figure you'd appreciate that, if not apologies.

Well if it gets bad all they can do is hope for a marrow donor match. I have been in the registry since last March. Not there yet and every day is good one on this side of the sod. Got pain from this and other ailments but if you hurt you are still alive.:24:

Well the med is strange in that it seems like I feel squirrely every other day. Start the weekly blood work again on Thursday so we will see what the analyzer machine says. Just had another good nap as it seems to tire me out.

Guess I will find out when that time comes. The doc in Rochester said a marrow transplant or massive blood transfusions that once you start they have to keep doing them. Chemo apparently does not work for what I have? The bone marrow taps are not that bad. Just grab the handle bars and hang on. This last one they did 3 tries to get enough fluid and it felt like a tooth ache at my belt line for a few days.

Guess the med is working. Did the bloodwork this morning and the doc liked that the platelet count came down some. Otherwise they would double the dose?:eek
