Never Like the First Time!
- Whether they are romantic or traumatic, embarrassing or inspiring, first sexual encounters are always formative. In this short animated documentary, four people tell the stories of their first sexual experiences, recalling these moments with a mixture of nostalgia, amusement, regret, and wonder. The film wanders from the bathroom of a 1950s-themed party to a teenager’s bedroom, from a stranger’sliving room to a college student’s tiny bed in the 1920s. In the process, it illuminates the diversity of these experiences, and provides illustrated insight into the lives of its narrators. With stories that are at once grippingly specific and comfortingly archetypal, Jonas Odell’s Never Like the First Time! deftly traces the emotional human contours of first sex.
