So I have all these great book ideas, but theres one i really need out of my head and into the world, and i thought, will all you smart people in here, maybe we call all collaborate on it, reap the profits together, and start a publishing company called offtopicz, just a thought...haha.....
Ok, so here it is, see if i can do this without actually writing the whole story.
So the name of the book would be "A Tear in the Woolen Sweater". The story takes place on a world that is occupied by two separate groups. One group (story revolves around) lives within a large restriction that seperates them from the others. They do this by choice and not force because they think it is the best for their people. They know that between them and the other group, they are the lesser. They only use around 10-20 percent of their brains, but the ones outside the restriction are known to use all of it. The restricted people do not want to meet the other people because they feel it will ruin their perfect happy lives (thinking that when they see someone that looks like them but thinks differently, it will throw their whole system out of wack), so they choose to stay enclosed. It is this the knowlege of inferiority that shapes these peoples way of life.
The restricted people are awake at all times of the day. They run on a 22 hour clock, and awake for all of it, in order to get the most out of life (compensating for inferiority). They celebrate everything they can. When the clock strikes 00:00:01, it is New Day. When the sun comes up, it is New Sun, you get the idea. Any reason to feel happy, they do. Every day is better then before, every sun is brighter.
There are no secrets in the society, everything is known by everyone. If someone is going to get a suprise, they all will know what it is shortly after. No secrets means no doors, there are just opening where people pass in and out of. No doors means no cars, so they ride around on extreamly comfortable bicycles with recliners on them.
When the sun is not around, lights shine throughout the society, as bright as the sun, so everyone can see each others smiling faces. They work multiple jobs in the day, always busy, except during New Day and New Sun, when they go back to their living quarters to sit for a moment and think about how great life is, and to be with their emotional partners.
I think that covers most of it for the society, now on to the main character....
The story is about Grey who lives in the restriction. Story begins with him sitting in a chair in front of the mirror as he always does as the countdown to New Day happens (this is what everybody does at this time). As the clock hits New Day, there is a loud bang that he is unfamiliar with, but does not registar to him (because it might disturb his happy balance). He gets up and meets his emotional partner Rose in the living room where she greets him with the usual Happy New Day. Soon after the neighbors just walk right in as they usually do at that time, talking about how great the day is going to be and how the paper says its going to be the brightest and most brilliant sun ever that day. They have the usual talk, and Rose tells them that she has a suprise for Grey at New Sun, when he gets back from the Animal Research Facility (which everyone in the room is excited for since they all will know too). Grey leaves on his bike, as everyone else does, and goes about his joby day. When he gets to the ARF, he is eager to hear the special news his boss as waiting for him. The boss brings him over to the rat area, where there are rats that live together in a little restriction (get it). One of the rats is making something that is useful to the other rats, and is sharing its knowlege with the rest of them (what it is doing i can also use help on). Grey sees all the other rats gravitate to the one, except for one solitary rat that remains on the other side of the restriction by itself. It is at this moment that Greys life takes a big turn. He finds an odd connection with this rat. Seeing it just sit by itself, he struggles to understand why it does not go with the others, and Grey cannot shake his question, thus distrupting his peace from now on. Sadly, another rat from the group sees the lone one, and gets him to join, thus loosing sight of it amongst the rest, looking all the same, very discouraging to Grey for some reason unbeknownst to him.
As he leaves for his living quarters, he remembers the suprise, and he has a feeling in him that he wants no one else to know what it is but himself, but does not know what to do. When he gets there, his neighbors and Rose are waiting, and she presents him with a wool sweater. He smiles, but not as wide as usual, he can tell the others notices, but that hey shrug it off in the blink of an eye.
Blah blah blah, more things start happening to Grey, he notices that every New Day the same thing is happening, that its always supposed to be a brighter day, and so on and so forth. His blinders are coming off and he is very questioning within. With every New Day comes the same loud noise that the book starts with, but each time he enters into the living room a little later for some reason without noticing any time pass. Rose and the neighbors say nothing as to not disrupt things. Over a day or two, Grey also learns that between 21:59:59 and 00:00:00, the moon shifts in the sky considerably, about two hours worth. By now he is fed up, and starts telling people what he is seeing. But no one even acknowldges what he is saying, not even saying he is wrong, they just keep talking about stuff, even though he can see their facial expressions change ever so slightly. You learn here that they do run on a 24 hour clock, but at New Day, when everyone is sitting, they all pass out for 2 hours, but feels like a blink of an eye to them, and their brain is geared to go go go. So Grey decides to leave the society and head towards the fabled restriction edge.
(there is more in this part that i am not writing but im trying to keep this short, lol, right)
Of he goes on his bike (Class A Transport, CAT). It is around here that he starts having visions in his times of being passed out. He does not know what dreams are, so this is new to him. Every "dream" begins with him standing in his living room looking out towards the world, where there is no one around. His dream world is quite but the breeze, and no one to bother him or lie to him, he loves it here, and always feels a little discouraged when he wakes, which gets later everyday. There will be a part when he is riding that his bike is worn down to look about what our bikes look like, and he will be sleeping about the same as we do, all for around 4 pages i imagine, and his thoughts will match ours in general. but he keeps going ofcourse. On his travels he comes across another group of people who have fled as he has because they see some things wrong as well, but have found each other in the woods to start a truely honest society. He feels he as found a home with these people, but it does not last long. He learns more, but in learning, he sees the cunning and very underlining lies that go on, and it bothers him more then the ignorants that he was just living with. Still he sleeps more and more, and still he wakes to a loud bang, but before he decides to move past these woods people something happens....in his dream world, there are obstructions appearing in the openings of places. they are doors, but he's never seen one. Slowly restricting him from going wherever he wants, but he still preferes having no one around. Every time he goes for the knob (not knowing what it is) he hears the loud bang and is back again.
