I know sex offender lists can be helpful, but something weirds me out about the law letting everyone know where you live, and what you look like.

MySpace to hand over sex offender data

Social networking site reaches accord with U.S. attorneys general

NEW YORK - Faced with legal demands from state attorneys general, MySpace.com said Monday it will release data on registered sex offenders it has identified and removed from the popular social networking Web site. The company, citing federal privacy laws, initially rebuffed a demand from North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper and colleagues in seven other states who last week asked for data on how many registered sex offenders are using the site and where they live.

Sure, they're sex offenders, but damn. Why should they be removed from the site? Not all sex offenders stick to committing sex crimes. And I know from personal experience.

No, that doesn't mean I'm a sex offender :D

Don't rape innocent children and you won't have that problem. If I were the president, hangings would be in order for any and all sex crimes any guy commits against a child against their will.

Too bad it doesn't work that way. Go read the earlier thread about sex offender lists. The list of crimes that can get you on one is pretty scary, and once you are on one, your life is basically ruined, even if you never committed a sexual act against a child. I personally know someone who is a registered "sex offender", and all he did was get in a fight with a 16 year old when he was 18.

There is one big problem with these sex offender registries. All these people are lumped into the same group, whether some chic flashed her fun bags in a bar, some guys exposed himself in public while peeing or whether some guy raped multiple children. There is no real good way to tell why they are on the list.
I mean come on, WTH should some one be on the sex offender registry for flashing their tits in public? Are they really a threat to society?

My friend JR go registered as a sex offender when he was 18 and he didn't do anything wrong. His friends thought it would be funny to lock him in a shed with this 16 year old girl that they knew, so the pushed them in, locked the door, and the father of the girl ended up calling rape on him.
