My wife was in tears before she left for work.

When my children went through school my wife was very active as an unpaid volunteer. There were several stay at home moms who were the core of the group of volunteers. They remain friends although not always close and have a shared kinship since their children are the same age and their children grew up together. One of the young men who went through school with my son was killed in an accident on I-10 in Florida yesterday. He and my son were not best friends or anything but my wife was totally shook up thinking how easy it could happen to any of us.

That sux Fred. I totally understand that reality. A close friend of my wife was killed in a car accident last week. She was 36. It was a somber reminder that nothing in life is guaranteed and we need to embrace every moment we have here. There is no time for anger and bitterness when life can be gone in a flash. My condolences to you and you family.
