Around January, Jace developed this thing on his ankle. I had tried EVERYTHING possible! OTC products, home remedies, and even nothing at all. Everything was a fail. Finally decided to bring him to the dr in June. Dr thought it was impetigo and prescribed him with a cream, that didnt work. went back, prescribed him with an antibiotic and a different cream, that didnt work. So, he was referred to a dermatologist. Appointment being August 21! :eek we had been dealing with this thing for months and now we have to wait even more.

There were days it looked better, then days where it looked horribly worse! Never itched or burned or bothered him in anyway, so i was OK with waiting till August. One day i called the derm just to see if there were any cancellations, and much to my surprise there was one for the next day at 8am! His dr said impetigo, but the derm wasnt sure since thats suppose to be HIGHLY contagious and that had never been an issue. He did a culture, prescribed him with a different antibiotic and a .25% steroid cream for 2 weeks and wanted a follow up appointment. Today was the follow up appointment. Here are the pictures of our journy......

Can you say AMAZING!?!? Dermatologist said with what the culture and how it responded, he determined it to be a severe case of eczema infected with staph. I dont care if he diagnosed it or not, THE TREATMENT OFFERED WORKED!!! The difference is just insane!

you went 6 months before you saw a Dr for that?!?!?

well, the first couple months went without noticing. it was cold and he was always in pants. i remember about when i felt it while washing his feet in the tub, but would forget about it when done bathing. then the rest of the time went with the OTC, home remedies before we called the dr because I grew up with eczema and still have it and recently developed psoriasis, so i already knew everything to help. once i realized nothing was working, then i called the dr

LOL i know, im horrible!

the wait for any dermatologist is long. for a good one anyway. i have several friends who would refer me, but was followed by "but there's a x month wait". i was lucky i called when they had a cancellation! thrilled too!

I called several Dermatologiststo make an appointment for some redness and irritation under my right arm. The shortest wait I could get to see one was 4 weeks and the longest was 3 months. While I was waiting for my appointment to roll around I had a weird red bump thing come up on my face. By the time I went they weren't too concerned with the eczema on my arm but very concerned about my face. I thought maybe it was an infected or ingrown hair but they cut it off and did a biopsy and it turned out to have some big fancy name I don't remember. It had pre-cancerous cells so I had to go back and let them freeze it. The spot is still pink but it loks a little better. But yeah the wait for those dermatologists is ridiculous. Tell your son he should become one when he grows up.

Very glad to see that the meds are working for him. I know how bad it feels when you don't know whats wrong with your kid.

I had a biopsy done on a cyst near my ear a few months back. After the stitches came out it left this annoying puffy scar that will probably never go away. grrrrr.

Yeah everyone was like "oh id find another one to take you sooner!". Um, its not that easy and you dont think his ped tried!? It took his ped a week to find that one! Not just that one, but one who was in our network AND accepting new patients!

Wow, that looks really bad.
When did you first call the doctor? I would not let something like that just fester. Once the OTC's didn't work, I would be calling his ped.
I hope he is all better.
