most are rescue dogs.....when they reach 3 or 4 years old they're too old for racing so get discarded

Yeah, what Ian said. Greyhound racing is the fastest growing sport in England. The racing life of a dog is on average about 3 or 4 years. Greyhounds live on average to 12 or 13 years. Thats a lot of dogs that need homes when they retire! Besides, they make great pets, the're rarely vicious and dont need a lot of exercise.
