...ended up in the ER again last night. He works as a tree surgeon and uses things like log splitters(A small machine that can hook up to the back of your truck using a ball-hitch, it has a large long blade, pretty dull right now though, and it shoots forward to split a log). Apparently, he somehow caught the middle finger on his right hand in the path of the blade, and it sliced off a part of his finger at the fingernail at an angle. He's alright now, he was released last night, and is actually up and walking around now. He's on his way to the orthopedic's office right now. He's already broken BOTH arms at the SAME time, his leg, and just about every finger on each hand playing football in high school. The leg was on a dirtbike and the two arms were from getting kicked out by a bouncer. The bouncer wouldn't let my brother go get his money out of the truck so he broke his arms while throwing him out, we sued the bouncer. This kid is so accident-prone :(

I've never heard of a log splitter that has a "blade and shoots forward", and I've split a lot of logs. But regardless, yes, log splitters can be very dangerous if you dont pay attention to what you are doing. I know a guy that broke half his hand with one.

I dunno if I got the description entirely right. Basically it's this mini-table, and it has an engine and a blade-thing. The blade sits at the back, and when you place the long on it, it splits the log when the blade goes forward. Here's the best image I can get of one-

That's the kind he has, but I also found this one-

Yea, the one I have is essentially like the top one. It is a slow moving wedge (rather than blade) that forces itself through the log and splits it. It moves rather slowly, but accidents can happen.

I saw a picture his girlfriend took with her phone, it wasn't nice. He's doing pretty good so far, he had it[the finger] cleaned the other night, so I got a look at it. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, but it still looks pretty bad. He got 5 stitches, and one of them had to go through his fingernail. Everybody's been saying, that'll be a great sight to see when he flicks people off now, haha.
