Mt.Baker... Part II

As I pointed out in my other thread Mt. Baker itself is 10781'. The ski area is off to the east quite a bit and it's base is at an elevation of 3500'. At the the base of the ski area is a meadow with a small lake and the area can be quite colorful in the fall. Besides the lake the area offers some stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

I'll start off with these three shots and post some others later. For Fifi's sake I've reduced the image quality quite a bit so I hope they turn out at least 1/2 decent.

All the shots were taken on October 11/06 which happens to be the last time I drove up there.

They call this Mirror Lake. I wonder why.

The area is surrounded by a lush mountain meadow :D with all sorts of wild flowers that are actually is quite harsh on the eyes because of all the color.

No there isn't. In the months when skiing isn't happening there is absolutely nobody except the rare camera type tourist there. Once in a blue moon you might get lucky and see a maintenance worker and that's about it.

I'm gunna post a couple more in a bit.

That's too bad. I love to rustic camp on occasion and that place looks like a good one to do it in.

I suppose if you happen to hike in and hike far..... you might just have to spend the night. :cool

This is another lush mountain meadow. I find it quite harsh on the eyes as well. It looks a lot better printed @ 11 x 14.

These next three shots are of some of the other rocks you see from that area. As you can see I was almost at the top of the tree line. After that nothing grows.

Did you see any wildlife while there?
Not there I didn't but I did spot a black bear on the way up once. It was a trip I made up there in August of the same year. I got a shot of him but he was a long way off and didn't hang around for me to try and get a better one.

That would have been close enough for me.

Did you take anything along for protection in case of an encounter?

Haha.... Toss her at the dangerous animals whilst you hightail it for help, yes? ;)
I wouldn't have to toss her. She loves animals so all I would do is say.. " look honey.. a cute fuzzy animal " and she'd be out of the car in a heartbeat. :D I wouldn't want to be part of a crime you know. :24:
