I probably should have started with this thread, as it's a lot more common for the movie to be shit when compared to the book.

So, which movies do you think butchered the book they were based on? I won't limit it to three because there are so many to choose from, and I'm pretty sure you bastards wouldn't listen j/k :D

1. Troy: You've gotta be a douche to completely bastardize the Iliad

2. Bram Stoker's Dracula: It's fine to try to offer a new take on the original, but why try to claim authenticity by attributing it to the author.

3. Any modern adaptation of Shakespeare: just isn't right.

That's all I can think of off-hand, but if the thread gets rollin' I'll be adding to it.

Troy.
War of the Worlds. All of them, except that British Pendragon one, which was so atrocious it doesn't deserve the honor of being called a movie. The others were really good, but they butchered the book.
Romeo+Juliet. Had to watch this in school, the modern adaptation. Horrible. Shakespheare, great author, and belongs in his time period. It's only right.

When Atlas Shrugged comes out, I'm pretty sure I'll be adding that to the list. This is just off the top of my head.

Eragon-The movie left out an entire race of people for christs sake. The most interesting people at that!

Gangs of Newyork-Had no truth to it whatsoever. The actual documentation and historical accounts of the characters was boring as hell. Which means there was alooooot of embelishment.
