Who here rides one or knows how to ride one?

What kind ya got?

How long have you been riding?

Who taught you to ride or how'd you learn?

{mods - move this or merge if necessary - didn't know if it went in automotive or sports & rec}

I want one. My wife doesn't want me to have one. So I don't have one.

I'm learning more and more how much things like this happen in marriage :eek

My 4YO wants me to get one and take him for a ride. But I have to learn how to ride one first, me thinks

Well, she also didn't want me to have a PS3, LCD TV, or a recliner. And I have all three :D

Needless to say, I'll end up with one eventually.

I do not have one now, but I used to race dirt track when I was little. I've also drove a couple ex boyfriends. I'm hoping to have one in a couple years. I'm looking more at a rocket. Can't wait!!

Me, I try and ride all the time.

What kind ya got?
2007 Yamaha FJR1300 (see below)

How long have you been riding?
God, I hate to be honest..................38 years

Who taught you to ride or how'd you learn?
The school of hard knocks (usually landing on hard ground and/or rocks ;)). Started riding off-road before I was old enough to get a license. Started on an old Honda scooter of the 50cc variety, then started serious off-roading with a 125cc Kawasaki motocross bike, raced a little. Moved up in size and class. Once I got my drivers license (got both my car and motorcycle license the same day taking separate written and driving tests for the car and the bike, had a buddy following me to the MVA with his bike so I could take the test.) Then I discovered that chicks dig motorcycles so no more off-roading hello street bikes.
Funny thing is my wife absolutely HATES motorcycles, won't go near one won't watch when I ride off. When I bought my current bike my oldest daughter wouldn't speak to me for two days; my youngest daughter asked if I got her a new helmet to go with the bike. :D

The motorcycle behind my bike (under the cover) is a Honda cruiser (VTX 1300) that I was storing over the winter for a friend.

I've got my license, but no bike yet. I'm still trying to decide what I want. My choices so far: HD Sportster Nightster, BMW CS650 or a Victory Vegas Low.

I took a 2 and a half day class at a local vocational school for $25 in August of 2007.

If this job thing goes well, I'll have one sooner rather than later. :D

I got a Suzuki GSXR750. Been riding off road for my life, on road for couple of years.

Wow- very nice looking bike from what I've found on the internet.

I figured by your forum name you'd been riding for some time.

It it your primary mode of transportation?

Nice - I hope you get your ride. I see you've been riding for awhile as well.

Interesting - it seems to be a cross between a sport bike and a cruiser.

You've been riding a long time. It is way late in the game for me to try and learn, as I'm in my 40s.

Too funny about your wife. Does she worry about you when you ride? My dad told me if i ever wanted to kill myself, he'd get me a motorcycle - which is one reason I never learned to ride.

Sounds like at least you have one member of the family that'll ride with you though. Funny, I'm suppose to be the one getting my son to try new things, and he has me thinking about learning to ride :D

Wow - only 2 1/2 days. I figured it would take a lot longer than that. I know the community college here offers motorcycle rider courses. I think you can get your license through them once you complete the course.

Nice bike choices as well :thumbup

Thank you. :)

And yes... that's how I got my license.

I am planning on doing the HD Rider's Edge course before I buy. It cost $300 and it's 5 days. :thumbup

The FJR is considered a sport touring bike and in the case of the FJR more on the sport than the touring. The thing is fast, I got rid of the OEM tires and put on some sticky ones and have been scraping knees on the corners ever since.

You are never to old to learn. Start out small with a low weight, low power bike and work your way up. You'll have a blast, meet great people and generally improve your outlook on life. (You'd thing I was a motorcycle salesman wouldn't you? ;))

Meet a gentleman last summer at a gas station (scared the shit out of myself so I stopped, I was doing deep breathing exercises :D) he was 67 years old everything about him was new. The bike was a 800cc Kawasaki crusier, all his protective clothing was new from his helmet down to his boots. The bike had 500 miles on it. He just completed the motorcycle course, had gotten his license, for the first time, two weeks earlier. He told me that he had always want to ride a bike but he agreed with his wife he wouldn't because of his parential responsibilty with the children. He looked at me and told me the last child left home 4 months earlier and now he was going to ride. I still see him every now and then just tooling along.

It is never to old to learn.
