Tomorrow I am going to Montréal avec three friends. It's a long drive, but oh well. The weather is looking to be weirdly cool, so we're bringing coats.

This is sort of a spur of the moment thing, but I don't really have a job (except that book for September, but it can wait three days), so it's not like I have anything to stop me from running off to the good land of the French for a few days. Matt isn't coming with me (since he does have a job), but I am taking his car.

I'm practising my francais. I never took French in grade school, since English is my second language, but I did for a year in high school. I can say things like, "Je vais, tu vas, il va, elle va, nous allons, vous allez, ils vont, elles vont!" And "excusez-moi, mais mon cheveux est brun" (though I have no idea where I'd ever use that). Also, "voulez-vous couchez avec moi", but Matt would kill me.

Au revoir, mon amis! I must pack (or I will in a few minutes) and gas up the car! And load the Amelie soundtrack onto my iPod, because obviously, why go to Montréal (Say it moh-ray-all!) if you aren't going to listen to French music on the way?

Ps: I'll have pictures when I get back.

how do you have 23 years???

does that mean someone can steal them?

Haha, you have no idea how funny that comment is! I dunno, it's just like that in French grammar. Same in Russian and quite a few other languages as well. It makes sense to those who know the languages.

yes. i know. and i know why it is that way. because if you said ( in french ) ' i am 23 ' .. they expect you to be literally, 23. so you have 23 years on your soul, and your lease is due to expire, but you keep making payments every year, so you have years. woot.

um :tard

right. :dunno

So I went to Montreal. I didn't take a lot of exciting pictures. Some amazing ones in a café, but none really on the streets. Should I post them here, or make a new thread in Pictures?

I also stopped in Ottawa to visit my parents, but I didn't take any pictures there, because I grew up there, and as "majestic" as the Canadian Parliament Building is, I grew up with it a few blocks away, so I don't care.
One thing amazing about Ottawa is that the American Embassy is so intensely guarded. Piked fencing, car guards in three different layers from the street, armed guards at all time... and then compared to the Canadian Parliament. You can walk around the grounds pretty much freely. There's maybe (maybe!) one or two RCMP milling around, but mostly they're taking pictures with tourists. You can walk right up and into the building.
