WATERVILLE -- Hoping to celebrate a couple of big milestones, organizers expect to sell quite a few more than "Two Tickets to Paradise" for this year's Taste of Greater Waterville.
That's because singer Eddie Money will be headlining the annual community celebration of local eateries and businesses, which is in it's 20th year.
Money, known for his hit song "Take Me Home Tonight" along with many others, is one of the biggest names ever to perform at the downtown Waterville festival.
Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce, which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary with the annual event, today announced the singer is topping a lineup of entertainers that are sure to draw big crowds to the Aug. 1 festival in downtown.
Kimberly Lindlof, president and CEO of the chamber, noted the chamber hired the well-known classic rock singer to ensure this year's celebration draws the biggest crowd ever.
"We wanted to showcase our area and its businesses to this crowd of 10 to 20,000," Lindlof stated in a release about the expected boost from Money's concert.
Other popular local bands will also take the stage, with Borderline Express and Fallen Angel opening for Money. The concerts start at 5 p.m. and Eddie Money takes the stage from 9 to 11 p.m.
The day's activities start at 11 a.m., with children's activities, food vendors and other live entertainment all day.
The afternoon's highlight's include an appearance by the Budweiser Clydesdales. The beer companies trademark Clydesdales hitch and wagon will also parade down Maine Street weather permitting.
Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be restaurants on Main Street and a beer garden.
For the concerts and beer garden, there will be 1,000 VIP seats sold for $25 each, with a $3 convenience fee for some, the release states. These seats will be in front of the stage.
These VIP tickets go on sale Friday and people can call the chamber at 873-3315 for more details about the event.
General admission tickets for people age 21 and above to gain access to the concert and beer garden area will cost $5. These tickets will not be sold before the day of the event.
