Engineered Consent

Those who manipulate the unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. In almost every act of our lives whether in the sphere of politics or business in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that control the public mind.

I don't buy it because if you are informed, and have a desire to know, you won't be a victim of delusion. I hardly watch television and donnot automatically believe everything I hear by questioning and researching.

One thing that should be illegal, though, are subconscious attractions that you cannot consciously control. Like certain colors or shapes designed to make people desire more food or persuade their shopping behavior like in malls.

How can one control subconscious attractions? I know what you are saying, the way some merchants etc., display things are aimed using psychologically based cues....but hey that's what knowledge does, it gives you more power. So know you have the knowledge these merchants are doing that, if you feel hunger in a mall ask yourself are you really hungry or could you have been triggered by something you just saw?

It's common knowledge that the media puts a spin on the news for whatever agenda they may sway towards. Ad agencies have long known how to get a response from the target prospects they persue.
Thinking there is a group of people manipulating, and creating mindless puppets out of the population, is just a bit conspiracy theory to me.

I don't think the solution is to un-plug as the video suggests... although its probably good to do that once in a while.

I'd rather the old adage "Only believe half of what you see, and half of what you hear"

Believe less than half of what you hear. I agree with you.
