Milking a snake?

First of all, I have never heard of "milking a snake" before until the other night. This 17 yr old I guess was apparently bored because he milked a copperhead and then drank the venom uke:

I've heard of that...you're just taking the venom out...but i might be wrong on this...isnt a copperhead poisoness? So the kid would be dead?

Thats what I was thinking. But they called poison control and they said basically to just observe him for 4 hrs and there was nothing you could really do for that.

Copperhead snakes are venomous, but, it's not that poisonous. If you get bit by a Copperhead, it will make you pretty sick for a few hours, but that's about it. Hell, the hospitals usually don't even give you antivenin for Copperheads because of the risks of allergic reactions to it.

Re: the milking of snakes... if I am not mistaken, captive snakes are milked by professionals to create the anti venom given when someone suffers a bite.

well if you bored go play on the freeway that's what I did as a kid safer that playing with a snake. Now when I am bored I just play with myself

In Japan they actually have a drink served in bars, the bottle has a snake in the bottle. The venom is mixed with sake or something. It makes you hallucinate. I think it is called habu sake.

He never said why he did it. He was real quiet the whole time he was there. I know I sure wouldnt do something so idiotic as that much less even touch a snake!
