I have a ringtone for my phone that's in a MIDI format. Problem is my phone will handle only mp3's for ringtones and I gotta get this working. Is there something built into Win7 that will do it?

Thanks Francis. I got the program and....

I e-mailed the ringtone to myself. I could have sworn when I looked at it on my phone this morning that it was a MIDi but it's not. It's already an mp3. I have a Motorola Razr v3c supplied by Telus and the bloody thing won't allow me to set it as a ringtone. It won't even show me the option to set it as one like all the others do. When I view all the tones supplied by Telus some are mp3's, some MIDI's and of course they all work. Do you have any idea why I can't use my own ringtone?

Been years since I owned a Motorola so here goes.. Been through Nokia and yes even a Uniden :eek..

OK I looked it up for you and here is what I found as I suspected... Note the few things I bolded..

I am sorry to say but companies like Motorola and Nokia did not make it easy for Ring Tones to be uploaded by people unless you purchased them.. They would use a special bit rate so that even if you had the right MIDI or MP3 player your ring tone would sound like crap..

Today most phones make it much easier.. At least mine I can just drop any MP3 and it just plays it.. I know, I have a chicken ring tone.. :D

TRANSFER YOUR NEW RINGTONE TO YOUR MOTOROLA RAZR V3 CELLPHONE:
0. Obtain & install Motorola Phone Tools v4.3.6
http://direct.motorola.com/ens/MPT/MPT_FullSpecs.asp
1. Connect your Motorola phone via a standard USB cable
to the Windows XP computer (bluetooth would be better)
2. In MPT "Multimedia Tools", bring up the "File Transfer Studio"
to transfer pics & videos back & forth between the telephone
& the Windows XP computer
3. In MPT "Multimedia Tools", bring up the "Melody Studio"
to create, edit, & transfer ringtones & music back & forth
between the telephone and the PC
4. In "Multimedia Tools", bring up the "Video Studio"
to edit & transfer videos back & forth between the telephone
and the WinXP computer

And

Hints on creating Motorola RAZR V3 ringtones.
- Create a 21 to 25 second WAV file using Audacity freeware on WinXP
- Don't go any higher than a sampling rate of 22.05 Khz
- Effect Fade In at about 2% and Effect Fade Out at around 19%
- Make sure you "Split Stereo Track" into a single track
- Then, close one of the two tracks
- Ctrl+A, Quick Mix,
- Increase volume with Ctrl+A, Effect, Equalize to +9 db at 1000 Hz
- Remove base with Ctrl+A, Effect, High Pass Filter, 150 Hz
- Compress to MP3 with RazorLame freeware
- Set constant bitrate by unchecking the variable bit rate (VBR)
- Set bitrate 32 kbps mono, set sampling rate to 22.05 kHz
- The final ringtone file size should be less than 120 kb on disk

Transfer the ringtone to your Motorola RAZR V3 using Motorola Phone Tools
or P2KTools.

Cheers and good luck..

Nope.

I downloaded the program and fiddled with it for quite a while before I gave up. It kept giving me codec errors and wouldn't let me save it and me not feeling very good I ran out of patience.
