I watched an excellent doco on the history channel last night about the history of Mary Jane.

In particular, they focused on the medicinal qualities of it, with one doctor in Israel doing extensive research on the comparison between your usual pain killers, and MJ.

The results were exceptionally good, and more and more doctors are prescribing it medicinally, yet still illegally.

Hubby and I were discussing, and he said "wont it be good when they finally get their heads out of their bums and decriminalise it"

I told him it would never happen...and heres my reasoning

IMO, the drug companies are NEVER going to allow it. They have too much to lose, too much money has gone to politicians (and will continue to) to support the drug companies own agendas.

Can you imagine how much money they would lose if people were using cheap, fast growing, available in your own back yard pain relief?

Opinions? Experiences?

Maybe things are different down under. But in the US there have been many states that allow medical MJ so your argument seems to not hold water. I think within 5 years most of the states will follow suit.

I think we will see it legalized eventually. Enough is enough trying to fight a pseudo war that is an abysmal failure and will never work.

Better to sell it the same as booze and save the money on enforcement and make tons of money on taxes. We could fund national health care with the with ease..

Pot head..... :D

I smoke only a couple times a year when everybody is gone.

I would like to be able to grow it so I could eat it. Not only are brownies a special buzz but no lung damage possibilities.

I used to smoke just to get to sleep. Of course I did not mind the buzz. May not work for others but it sure did for me.

Yes, but apparently the Fed govt (US) has power over the state governments that allow it, and they say its illegal. Thats why I wonder if it will ever come to pass because its the big Pharma companies that more often than not, contribute to the coffers of Federal government, so it would be a clash of interests

I'm thinking low calorie/low carb on the brownies might get me interested. All this alcohol consumption on the weekends can be a diet nightmare. Smoking it is out of the question. *cough cough* :D

Yes the feds to have power over the states. But the feds have thus far not done much. They see the writing on the wall and if enough states have it legally medicinally it would be impossible for the feds to fight it. Keep in mind that congress comes from the states so they are going to be cautious about how far they take this in the opposite direction

I'm not very well versed in your political structure, but I honestly can't ever see it happening.

I remember they legalised it in the war years, so you could "grow hemp" for the country and serviceman, but "surprise surprise" Mr DuPont found it was eating into his cotton industry, and pressured the govt. of the time to make it illegal again (no doubt with a little pocket lining)

All of a sudden, posters like this were appearing

So, what worries me I guess is that money will always win out over common sense

That was the dark ages. Very puritanical. Took until the 60's to loosen up. Now you have a couple of generation that have accepted pot as being not the evil that it was portrayed as. As long as the fringe loon religious right do not get a super majority this is never going to go backwards

Aside from this, the Gov't hasn't found a way to regulate it so they can control sales.

Too many seeds.:ninja
