It shouldn't be but it is. I think we need to start bringing back manufacturing to our nation.

Where's the incentive for that to happen though?

If it's cheaper to make it abroad then it's cheaper to sell, and people like cheap. If you move everything back home but then have to raise your prices exponentially higher, you're more likely to make people buy elsewhere than respect your business values.

Not to mention, it's all very well to say people should support businesses that keep their operations in the US, but as per your example above, there's no way a lot of people can afford $100 on one pair of jeans.

If you moved more things back home wouldn't the costs equal out and create more jobs?

Sure, probably in the long-term. But you'd have to get a lot of businesses committed to doing it, because otherwise you're just going to be driving people to shop in the places that are still using cheap labour and therefore have cheaper prices.

This isn't exactly the best time to be talking about increasing costs for anyone.

if you bring the work to the US to keep the costs down you would have to offer very very very low salaries to the workers, even if you could overcome Union issues would any US citizen work for the oft quoted buck a day

and plus, where are these factories going to be built? wouldn't you think business has thought better of this idea? where pretty much all the worlds clothes are made in 3rd world countries?
safe to say the business does not care about the USA but would rather cheap labor where the businesses can have tax write offs.

Businesses can't make profits if their expenses are high and their product costs are low.
They also can't make profits if their expenses are high and their product costs are higher.

So.
