President Obama says negotiators reached a budget deal that will avoid a shutdown. The House will pass a short-term measure to keep the government funded through next week, when a longer-term package will be enacted.

The house voted on Thursday to at least continue funding the military. Obama and the Senate would not agree to that.

The republicans really blew it on this one. They had the perfect opportunity to expose the democrats for their love of spending. Instead they tried to inject their friggin religious right bull shit into this.
