I drove into the mountains today with the intent of shooting some marmots. They are endangered in B.C. but can be found quite readily in certain areas such as were I ended up. The little buggers are kinda like big gophers and are a hoot to watch. Anywhoo... after my 2 hour drive I saw just one and he scampered off the side of the road and into the bush before I could stop my car. I talked to a " local " who informed me that they started their hibernation two weeks ago which apparently is quite early. Other than that I was able to get a shot of this Grey Jay aka Whiskey Jack. They are very tame and will come right up to you if you have something to offer in the way of food.

OH! Nice pic! I got a good shot of a Whiskey Jack a few years ago when I was hiking up at Joffre Lakes. Probably one of the easiest birds to get pictures of cuz they're so tame.

Nice shot. How close were you actually?
He was sittin' in a tree about 100' away. There were a few others walking on the ground within 2 or 3' of me but I wanted a shot of one in a tree. For some reason a bird on the ground just isn't the same... unless of course the bird is on her back if you know what I mean.;)
