Perry Police said they knew Elois Kendrick would most likely be armed and because of that, they brought the SRT team with them on a raid of Kendrick’s residence Sunday morning.
The Special Response Team is a tactical unit of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. Perry Director of Public Safety George Potter said, “the intel was he was armed. That’s why we used the SRT. Had our detectives gone in without the assistance of the SRT, they could have been shot or killed.”
Kendrick pulled a gun, Potter said, as officers executed a search warrant at the house on 617 Logue Street about 5:30 a.m.
Officers “shot him before he shot them,” Potter said, shooting Kendrick three times.
Potter said Kendrick has been hospitalized at Macon Medical Center and no officers were injured. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate the shooting, Potter said, and Perry Police continued its investigation on Kendrick.
Potter said officer had made drug buys from Kendrick and that prompted the search warrant.
“A large quantity of marijuana and ecstasy were found in the residence,” Potter said, along with several guns.
Potter said officers found four handguns – two of them stolen – and a shotgun. “He was a convicted felon and not supposed to have any,” Potter said.
Kendrick, also known as Eldis Dexter Kendrick, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections, spent to separate two-year terms in state prison, both for aggravated assault convictions in Houston County for crimes committed in 1994 and 1997. He was released from Scott State Prison May 22, 1999.
Kendrick was sentenced to 10 years, two to serve in the 1997 incident, and not prosecuted in exchange for the guilty plea on six other counts of aggravated assault, as well as theft by taking, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and discharging a firearm on or near a public highway.
In May of 2001, Kendrick was fund in violation of probation for a new misdemeanor arrest and violation of special terms of his probation, but was returned to regular probation.
In June of 2002 Kendrick was arrested on drug charges and pleaded guilty at arraignment on Oct. 2, 2002. He was sentenced to 10 years probation.
Perry Police and the SRT team also raid another home Friday, executing a search warrant at Apt. 76 of the Winslow Apartments, 200 Bristol St., Perry. The warrant was part of an ongoing investigation, said Det. Drew Dodson.
Potter said the first of two arrests was made outside the apartment. Sarah Judeh, 24, of Apt. 76, was arrested for felony possession of marijuana. Potter said Judeh was nine months pregnant and marijuana was found in her car.
Dodson said one bag was located in the car, containing about 2 ounces of marijuana.
Inside the apartment, Potter said, SRT members were “met by a pitbull, that charged at them and was dispatched.” Karl Frianella, 29, was arrested on felony marijuana possession. Dodson said a .22 rifle and some drug paraphernalia we located in the home, but no drugs.
Potter noted two pitbulls were also found in the rear yard at the Logue Street raid. “Pitbulls are the dog of choice with drug dealers and Michael Vick,” the chief said.
