I am married and have been married for about 6months, although we have been together 3 1/2 years. We have a son together.
Anyways to the story.
He just started school in North Carolina and I decided to stay in Georgia because we could not afford daycare (my mother watches my child now) This is going to be for about 2 years. Any advise on how to not let this tear us apart. We have never been apart in the 3 1/2 years we have been together.

Its tough...I am in Pittsburgh and my GF worked in DC. We lasted 2 years away from each other (visited once a month) and more in the summer. BUT the distance and both of us growing and moving in different directions finally was too much for both of us. I don't know what to tell ya..I hope it goes better for you than it went for me...BUT no doubt it will be very tough...

never been in a long distance relationship before. i hope it works out well for you. you have a family so that should help. but never being apart in 3 1\2 years and then being apart would be hard i think, but that also shows that you have a good relationship and should get you through this :D

Long distance relationships are rough. I had one and it didnt work between us... we ended up losing touch.. BUT since you have a child involoved it may be alot different. Are yall gonna go back and forth? Does he have an apt or dormroom that he stays in? Do you have your own house or are you living at home? I would say that you would definally need to visit alot and talk on the phone atleast once a day to make sure everything is ok. I know my insecurities got the best of me when my ex left.

I don't do long distance...its a lil too much for me....if I'm with someone I want to be able to see them all the time not just once in a while

i must add something- you are a pretty cool wife to let him go to school where he wants. I would of probably told him flat out no. LOL-- My husband got a job 2 hours from me and he drove back and forth for about 3 months, then we decided to move there. I then drove back n forth for 6 months for my job (but then I got pregnant and quit). We made it work w/ us but it was sooo tough. We were about ready to divorce until I got pregnant again.

So far we have talked everyday, he has just moved this past weekend so it is still really new. I am planning on going up there at least every other weekend if not every weekend. He has an apartment and I am living back with my parents to try and save money. I would have told him no about school but we have no financial future except for my job and that just wasn't cutting it for us, we were struggling to try and raise our child with only my income and his various jobs did not pay very much.

So far from what everybody is saying it is not the best thing that could happen and what it looks like is that normally it won't work out.

You want a positive outcome? *smiles*

Franklyn and I met at the end of October, 2004. He went back to Austin, and I lived in Kingwood, TX, at the time. I moved to Lake Charles, LA, to help my ex's family out, and didn't see him again until close to the end of February, 2005. Even after I moved closer to him, we only saw each other maybe once a week over the next 5-6 months.

His grandmother became deathly ill, and I was asked to help out, so I moved in with them last September. I'm still with him today...and we plan on being together until I succumb to my own health issues.

Those who think long distance relationships don't work out probably had trust and insecurity issues (yeah, V, I read your posts). If you trust and love him, then you have to trust that the two of you can make this work...because you really CAN make it work if the two of you support one another throughout a very trying time.

And who knows..? Maybe within the next couple months, you'll be able to find a higher paying job in HIS area, and can offset the amount for a babysitter by doing such. *smiles*

IT CAN WORK!!!!

my girlfriend and i had been together for about 2 years when i got an awesome job in dc and moved about 4 hours away. she had to stay because of school. luckily i was only 4 hours away instead of a few states like you. so i would drive every weekend minus the one's my girlfriend would come to visit me. we would also talk on the phone every day and night. we sould send each other letters in the mail along with other gifts. if it is meant to be it will work, but let me tell you it is a true test of your relationship. hardest part was not being next to her in the bed at night. feels so cold, needless to say i had finially got a job back home and moved. so it does work

Dude right!!
He made a comment last night that Myrtle beach was only a couple hours away. I told him don't even think about it.
