Let me relate the story of an young american lad, Michael Fay who used to live in Singapore. Back in 1993 the then 18-year-old and his friends damaged 18 cars in a 10-day spree of vandalism and mischief. Stolen road signs and Singapore flags were also found in his home. Fay was caught, charged and pleaded guilty. The judge sentenced him to six strokes of the cane and four months in jail.
The american media went berserk. Then US President Bill Clinton appealed to our then President to pardon the teenager. The Singapore government agreed to reduce the sentence to four strokes of the cane

i dont see what that has to do with anything... but i dont keep up with news... Personnally if u doi the crime do the time no matter where it was. He woulda gotten off lighter than in most countries.
 
That's taking things too far. Yeah, I can understand the government trying to help out if it was a death sentence or some huge sentence but sticking your oar in for this is ridiculous. As you already said, it's their own stupid fault if they go over to another country and behave like this when the sentences over there are made quite clear.
 
The US always like to stick their "oar" in, and Clinton had no right to try and tell the Singapore government what the sentence should be. Completely agree with what Peter said, and this is just a step too far. Doesn't surprise me from the likes of Clinton though.
