I have been thinking recently (like, since about 30 minutes ago or so, right sophie?)...

Why does a society perpetuate a particular lifestyle, but dishonor the alternatives, especially in a society as one seen in the United States (sorry, it's pretty much the only society that I slightly understand, so it's pretty much the base of my thoughts on the matter) where the "right" to express oneself in a manner that is not harmful to another is "protected"?

I put quotes around

and [protected] as the "right" is being contested, really, and protected, as in the contesting, there is plenty of room for interpretation of the writ words.​

The best I can come up with is that people like homogeneity. They are comfortable being with people like them, and uncomfortable being around people who are different. Add to that our instinctive resistance to change, and it's easy to understand how hard it would be for a different lifestyle to gain universal acceptance.

Funny you should mention that. I was just joking with my wife last night that if I was involved in a friend scavenger hunt, I would have to win. I've known just about 1 of any criteria you can come up with to describe a person. Including a gay, black, alcoholic Mormom. :nod:

If you are talking about husband+wife+kids, the church has been pushing that for eternity. There was a time when large families made sense. And based on the so called Word of God, it was the only way to go, plus there were a lot of followers, enough to make the "deviants" (and I only mean those deviating from the "norm") hide from general society.

Alternative lifestyles never bothered me, course I was raised that way, there is no wrong way of living/loving so long as no one is getting hurt.

Society in general is fucked up. What one person/click/group of people does should not have the effect it does on so many individuals. Thing is it does, heaps of people put their faith and beleif in something that is "supposedly" good for them when in the long run its almost like joining a minature cult.

Ive always lived different on purpose just to piss those people off I make sure my children learn the same lesson too, never to fall into what society "wants" them to do but do what it is that makes them get the most out of the life they want to live.

I want to know why worshiping an invisible deity with no proof and all the rituals that go along with it like sprinkling water on a babies head ect isn't seen as an alternative lifestyle? Think the religious nuts who are so down on how other people live their lives should probably take a good look at how their lifestyle might be perceived.
