all to often i see kids and adults bemoaning the fact that they cant have what they 'need'....whether it be the latest x-box game, the newest england shirt or the state of the art 50 inch flat screen HD plasma you join in with the action 3D television...we should think ourselves lucky

with the world cup being in south africa out tv stations have been going out into the towns etc...you have families living in tin huts where the mother is grateful if she can give her children one good meal a day, where her husband cant find work even though he'd bust a gut to proviide for his family...you give the kids a ball ,a piece of wasteland and a football shirt which is in fact last years and been donated to a charity and you give them the world....they're smiles would light up your tv screen

i think that in europe, usa etc we have it way too easy

I don't know if 'easy' is the correct word.
We sure have it better. I wonder why that is?
Just lucky, I guess....

I would rather not have all the luxuries in life and get to enjoy time with the people I love.

I always tell Matt- there's no one in this world I'd rather be poor with. Even if it means living in a cardboard box.

Because we live in countries that subscribe to the idea that you can achieve what you set out to do providing you are willing to work for it.

There are too many countries, Africa being one, that doesn't have that mentality because it's been held back by those in power.

exactly wanting what you can't or don't want to earn, can not not clearly be compared to people who have been told this is the way you're supposed to live. I hope I'm getting the message correctly

That's pretty much what I meant.

I think a lot of it's got to do with disposable income. I mean the cleaner where I used to work told me once that the families on her street that lived on benefits all had Sky TV and nice TV's etc while she couldn't afford stuff like Sky becxause she had bills to pay and other more important things. Now she wasn't bemoaning the fact that these families had the 'nice stuff', but she did say there seemed something wrong when people who don't work have all the good stuff whereas she couldn't because her money was used elsewhere.

So I think it goes beyond the 'Have and Have Not' way of thinking.

Although I will agree with the OP that we should all be grateful we're not African.

Oh I see.

Well, to be honest when I look at my life I do sometimes say stuff like "Well I could be African" to get me through.

I was watching the tail end of Tribal Wives last night and what struck me was the simple life they lead in these remote African mud hut villages. Even if it's hand to mouth - they seem to be happy with that and may not actually want a more complex, gadget filled life - even if that opportunity was presented to them. If they prefer to live that way, have at it I say. For those that don't want to, it's sad of course.

If you were to take a world wide poll, I'd bet the majority of people might say life sucks. I'm thinking of many places with rampant poverty and conflict. But maybe they won't cause they don't know what they are missing. Don't worry though, for average people, the West is sinking fast to 3rd world standards, so you may have your hut before you know it. ;)

More you have the more you want and never enough.

Most people worry too much of what don't have, rather to look and see to what already have
