Video: Sen. Lieberman, Rep. Hoekstra on 'FNS' - Video - FOXNews.com

Lieberman: "I was in Yemen in August. And we have a growing presence there, and we have to, of Special Operations, Green Berets, intelligence. We're working well with the government of President Saleh there.
I leave you with this thought that somebody in our government said to me in the Sana'a, the capital of Yemen. Iraq was yesterday's war. Afghanistan is today's war. If we don't act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow's war. That's the danger we face."

I can't believe some people want to go through this again. Was Iran that long ago? I think preemptive strikes are always a bad idea.

It's probably best the United States not to get involved in this whole mess. What Lieberman is calling for, I think, is more support to the Yemeni government in battling against Al-Qadea, which, apparently, has a significant presence in the country.

According to Lieberman, acting 'preemptively' may be simply providing more material and intelligence to the Yemeni's, something which the United States is already doing...

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/19/world/middleeast/19yemen.html?_r=1

Unfortunately, it's not really as simple as that. Since 2004, Yemen has been fighting Shia Houthis rebels in the north of the country. The government accuses Iran of supporting the rebels, which, they probably are. What's more troubling, is that the Houthis's have accused the government of enlisting Al-Qadea into their ranks to fight the rebels. A claim that doesn't seem very outlandish.

The role in Yemen of jihadists loyal to al-Qaeda is unclear, however. Thousands of Yemeni mujahideen who fought against the Russians in Afghanistan in the 1990s are back home. Many are said to be loyal to a former mujahideen leader called Asker Zuail, who now has a senior position in the Yemeni army and works directly under the general responsible for the current anti-Houthi campaign, often acting as a government spokesman.

To me, it seems like the government cannot be trusted, add that to egregious human rights abuses in the country, and the mysterious circumstances regarding high-profile Al-Qaeda militants 'escaping' from high-security prisons in the country, and my suspicions can very well be justified.

I'm tired of supporting the American Empire. Ya'll handle it. If you need anything, get a loan from China like everybody else.

Yemen seems to be in the news every day now. It's the new fad. Whoever was pulling the strings with Bush is still in control, apparently. We'll go from war to war to war. It's hard to fathom a mind that looks at human lives as only a means toward an end.

Good Point. I bet that 90% of the American population has never heard of Yemen.

Next year we'll probably learn more about Oman.

I am tired of those holding dual-citizenship making decisions that affect our nation. Our Founding Fathers certainly didn't want that. Yet it's here. Quite a few politicians. Our politicians should have only one citizenship. Ours. That way there is no conflict of interest even possible.

Google is a great tool..... There are plenty that hold dual citizenship. From Joe to Arnold.. Bremer, Wolfowitz, Chertoff, etc....

I had a link but it's dead. The info is out there if you look for it....

If I remember our history correctly, if you were in government you could not hold dual anything. Not even be 'Knighted' as it implied your allegiance could be compromised. Now it almost seems commonplace.

if this happens and it happens during obama's administration...the reaction from the anti war crowd will be amusing to say the least. will they call him a war monger and do all the shit to him they did to bush? they can even be witty and call him o-bomb-a just like they called bush shrub and shit.

Unless we are Native American Indians, all Americans have their origins in some other country.
So you guys can't question dual citizenships. Govt here won't allow dual citizenships.
